depressed by trainer's comments

So my fiance and I joined the YMCA a while ago. Well today he met with a trainer because he plans to do more than me...I was just going to do water stuff and walking to start out. I tagged along because we had to go shopping after and while she seemed nice enough she kept slipping in little digs about gastric bypass. We got on the subject because she asked what I was doing to lose weight and I made the mistake of telling her bypass. She just made me not want to tell people more. She would tell my fiance he should just do it the "right way" the "healthy way" "not the easy way". By the end of the session I wanted to use her as a punching bag...either that or just sit there and cry...couldn't decide. *I wouldn't really hit anyone, I'm very nonviolent...just had to add that* She made me feel like a lazy bum who just doesn't feel like doing the work. Actually she said gastric bypass isn't doing the work. Then she brought up Ron from the biggest loser...ugh. Keep in mind she didn't say anything like this directly to me just in front of me to my fiance. One thing that kind of made me feel slightly better was the receptionist had gastric bypass 3 years ago and told me it was the best decision she ever made, but then also went on to say she doesn't follow doctor's orders anymore with the supplements and stuff.

Anyway now I'm depressed and in a bad mood. It's such a beautiful day and I just want to sit inside and mope.

People will make rude uninformed comments all the time, get used to it thats all I can say. You're doing this for you and your health and that's all that matters.

Show up at the gym in 100lbs and I bet the little wench wouldn't even recognize you and accidently trip her on the treadmill.

I know...I need to get a tougher skin. It's just been rough this week because I'm nervous since my surgery is coming up. I'll get over it I'm sure...I just wasn't expecting it.

Okay take a deep breath and there is always somebody who will try to put their 2 cents in weather you want their opinion or not. The next time somebody says something like this to you just smile and say "It's not that I don't know how to lose the weight it's that I don't know how to keep it off long term" Also tell her that you are going to use the WLS as a tool to help you get healthier and you are commited to getting healthy prior to surgery and after the surgery intend to do the same. As for the biggest loser Ron comment i would have said I would be able to lose weight with diet and exercise if I spend 8 hours a day at the gym like they do for that show. Please don't get discouraged and as far as the supplements go there are not that much you need to keep taking for the rest of your life.  You will get a lot of advise good, bad and unwanted put in perspective why you have made the decision to have this surgery. Only you can decide if this is right for you.

**Hugs coming your way**

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

thanks for the support. I know I've made the right decision. I'm very unhealthy and the doctor's have said this is probably the best way I'm going to get healthy. what annoyed me a lot was that she wasn't even saying it to me...she was saying it in front of me like I wasn't even there.

Sweetie, you want to go on outside and take a little walk and get some endorphins going on this pretty day.   NO MOPING!   Don't let some skinny biotch who probably never had a stretched-out-fat-cell-EVER, make you feel small.   Let RNY make you feel small.   It will be work, far more work than your fiance or she will ever do because in addition to all that she's prescribing you'll be weighing and measuring foods and your shrinking body parts; you'll be expanding your mind, getting and giving support and learning coping skills and food triggers and then you'll be walking the malls....shopping for all those pretty new things you can fit into.    Nothing's more boring than a blockhead.   She needs to go exercise her mind and expand it some.   Knowledge is real power.  BTW, Supps are not always necessary if you're hitting your protein goals w/food but vitamin deficiency and bone density loss because you don't keep up the vitamin regimen can lead to serious issues down the road.   But you can convert her back once you get to know her better and set a good example for her

thank you...I really appreciate all you said. I might just force myself outside for some fresh air and maybe a walk will clear my head.

To put this bluntly- F her!!!!

It's your life and your decision, and I would report her and her attitude to her supervisior. Your fiance is paying the YMCA for her excercise/training knowledge not her opinion!

Thanks Jackie, I don't have the tolerance for ignorant people anymore!

Some people have no idea what's it's like to obese and walk a day in our shoes, plus they should talk about subjects they don't have any clue about!!!!!
