Intorduction

I just wanted to introduce myself, as I'm brand spanking new here. My name is Janet, I'm 30 and my gastric bypass surgery is scheduled for June 18th at Barix with Dr. Pupkova.

I'm really excited, yet terrified at the same time. It's a big change, but I know in my heart that I can handle it and that I need this change to save my life and have a better quality of life.

The main reason I joined is to meet people from my area (I live in Northeast Philly) who also are having, or have had the gastric bypass surgery.

I haven't been able to make it to any pre-op support group meetings, but I plan on going to post-op as often as possible.

I'm still trying to lose my 10lbs before surgery. I have 5 left to go, so wish me luck!

Hi Janet! I had my surgery over 2 years ago at almost 27 and haven't regretted it for a milisecond! Barix is a great place and you won't be disappointed!

We are all only an e-mail or PM away always. I don't live in your area but am on here often and happy to answer anything that I can.

I also host a support group / cooking class once month up at my house in the sticks! lol Easton, PA but there are always folks coming up from the city who I am sure would be happy to carpool.

Welcome aboard and don't hesitate to ask anything - one of us has always "been there done that"

Good luck with the 5 pounds - you can do it!

welcome please please use support groups you will need them.
also i recommend that preops start a scrap book or journal and include
in it all the things that SUCK about being fat. Then write all the things you want to be able to do.
So when you master them you can cross them off the list, you will always have something to look back at and see how far you have come

Welcome!  Jump right on in - we are a great tight knit bunch here!

You will find lots of "barix babies" here, many of which are pupkova fan club members (I myself included in BOTH of those categories!)

There's lots of Philly folks, too - but not sure who is close to you as I have NO knowledge of the Philly area at all.

Feel free to ask anything and everything - nothing is off topic or to personal here!

Hi Janet - Welcome!  It is funny that you said you were from the Northeast - I saw your picture and immediately thought of my old house in Oxford Circle!  My family and I are now living near Grant and the Boulevard!  Always a city girl!  I hope you can start making it to our support group meetings.  The Saturday ones are awesome and we split up into smaller groups of like people - and I even went to a post-op Wednesday meeting when I was pre-op and heard some AMAZING stories that just made my decision feel even more right - if that is even possible!

I am only 6 weeks out and am proud of my current accomplishments - Feel free to ask any questions- if you look back at some things, you will notice, nothing is off limits!

Again, welcome to the boards!

wow what a small world. My hubby grew up down by Oxford Circle. When we met his house was in Castor Gardens, me being a jersey girl could not get used to a row house so we had to find a house that was enough country for me but city enough for my city boy. We now live up at Grant & Krewstown...
