I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of Nicotine test they do? Whether it is Urine or Blood?

Barix didn't do one on me before surgery...but Pupkova's eyes were enough to make you tell the truth - be it what she wanted to hear or not.

And the reality of getting a bad bad bad case of pneumonia and/or being put on a ventilator after surgery was enough to scare me out of quitting before surgery.

I went back to it when I went back to work 8 weeks after surgery...and have quit and restarted multiple times since then much to her (Pupkova's) dismay and I understand WHY she's so upset....

Actually - Brian asked me to set a quit date with him and we are both quitting.

Now...the date....

If you're willing to make the commitments needed to make your life healthier by having this surgery, then why aren't you as committed to quitting smoking? Its for your own good - in more ways than one. Pam's right - by smoking there are many complications that can arise during and following surgery - why would you put yourself more at risk than you have to?

You have more than a month to quit - and if you start right now you can have it kicked and a lot of that crap out of your lungs and system by the time surgery comes around. If you can't do it cold turkey there are many aides and medicines out there to help you.

And yes, I am speaking from experience because I was a heavy smoker for 20 years and I quit cold turkey - that's what worked for me - I have only relapsed once and that was during a drunken stupor when I felt I just HAD to have a cig, only to have it make me half sick to my stomach.

So do yourself and your medical team a favor - quit NOW. You'll feel better - you'll smell better - and your surgery will go much better. And trust me, if you don't think you can handle quitting smoking, then your chances of success with this surgery aren't much better, because they both require a lot of sacrifice and commitment on your part - make sure you're ready for both.

My insurance had me do a blood test before getting the approval.  As I was a past smoker the were some complication during my surgery where they couldn't inflate me enough so it made it harder for Dr Pupkova.  If I would of known this I would of quit a lot sooner.

Ooh..I am not sure if mine does or not. I was not told I had to have a test done. My surgeon is Dr. Pupkova too.. So Barix does not really test for it? They say they do and can tell if you lie to them LOL. Well I am quitting smoking...Right Now!!! But the thing is..My surgery is June 17th and My PATS are May 21st..and well that is why I asked if they test for the nicotine..because I well..was gonna fib a bit by a week so my surgery date does not change. I will be 5 weeks clean by surgery but not 6. I had to change my date once already so my Hubby can get the time off and besides its not like I am smoking a pack a day..I have cut down to 2 cigs a day..I have not bought any of my own but when I am around someone who smokes I bum one or take a drag. So I have kinda slowly quit and NOW I am ready to have NO MORE!!!!
