discouraged....just what the heck is wrong with me

Ok so I spent Wednesday night in the hospital. I hadn't eaten and drank anything for two days, I was having stomach pain, nausea, fullness....YUCK. So I figure the stricture is back again. I called the doctor's office and they want me to go to the ER in Harrisburg(at the hospital where I had my surgery). That was about one and half hours to get there. I was dehydrated, that didn't surprise me, but everything else looked ok. CAT scan, chest and abdominal xrays, blook work, They admitted me observation and did an EGD Thursday morning. The good news is that I had NO stricture, and my ulcer is healing. Ok, four bags of IV fluid, one with multi-vitamin, and some potassium, lots of tests, and I still feel like crap. stomach hursts, not tolerating fluids, barely getting in my stomach meds, can't take my vitamins, hardly any protein, you get the picture. I keep trying different things, but can't figure out what the heck is going on and why I don't feel any better. Sorry just feeling really discouraged right now and looking for some ideas I guess. Thanks for listening, Hoping everyone else is feeling better than I am right now. Belinda

Belinda,
You don't have to apologize for venting or feeling discouraged. Nothing you say on this board will surprise any of us. That being said let me hypothtically ask you a questions with all your problems are you still having doubts that you got the WLS?? It's unfortunate that you are having some issues but you and your doctor are being proactive and taking precautions to make sure that you get better (keeping my fingers crossed-SOON). Also nobody would blame you for feeling discouraged but please don't give up and keep posting here we will do what we can to listen and I am sending you BIG Cyber Hugs.

Take Care Sweetie

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

Belinda,

With everything you have been through, I don't think anyone can flame you for having a day where you just need to vent and are "sick and tired of being sick and tired" as my mom would say.

Hang in there - it WILL get better. It has no choice.  And if your pouch doesn't think so, inform it that it has a whole pa forum ready to kick it's stoma any time any day.

Ok so that was my pathetic attempt to at least make you smirk for a second or two.

Do the best you can for right now and get through this bump in the road.
Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Thanks yes there was actually a smile at the thought of you guys "kicking my stoma". I have to say that even with these "bumps" in the road I am still looking forward to feeling better. And by that I mean healthier. I know deep in my heart that I will be in better shape in the long run. (although some days I have to remind myself of that quite often) I trust my docs, and I know that I am determined to be living a brand new life next year at this time. Thanks Belinda

Belinda - so sorry to hear that you still feel crappy! You can vent here anytime - that is what we are here for! You can always call me too. Feeling sick sucks. You will get better though and things will turn around - SOON I hope! I would try "easy" things, mashed potatoes, ricotta cheese, yogurt - if the dairy doesn't sit, try soy products - VERY common to become lactose intolerant after surgery.

*hugs* hopefully your Drs can figure things out soon.!! Maybe an anti-nausea medicine like Zofran, Compazine or Phenergan will help so that you can keep things down to heal! Can't hurt to ask the Dr - I've been on all 3 of them at some point post op

Belinda, I don't know what to say.. I am so sorry that you are having such issues with your new pouchie.  I am glad that you are on top of things and getting to the doctor when you need to and not putting anything on the back burner.  It sounds like you have top notch people on your side at the dr's office and the hospital and I am sure that they will find something soon!!

Hope this finds you feeling better.  Totally unrelated to WLS, there is a ton of stomach flu making the rounds these days...  Just try a few days of clear liquids and give your system a chance to heal itself.
