OT this is why women spent all day in the kitchen!

I just have to say.....

Stuffed Cabbage - NOT a quick and easy meal to throw together!   I give my grandmother a TON of credit for making meals like that, while cleaning the house and taking care of 4 growing kids who yes, still came HOME from school at lunch time.

The perogies are NOT getting done today, although the filling is made.

I had fun....but now onto the other part of my day - napping!  It's been a long time since "just working in the kitchen" has tired me out.  Granted, I worked all night too....so that must play a part in it.

Brian and I are going out to eat and to see a movie tonight now, change in roll call

To make it easier I started to make it as a casserole. Tastes the same and alot less time.

Line pan  (11 x 13  or  a casserole dish) with steamed cabbage, a layer of rice and meat mixture, more cabbage and tomatoe soup.  Throw some kielbasa on top and your finished.  Bake it.

Hubby loves it.  I even tried it with ground chicken or turkey.  Not bad.

Enjoy.

That sounds like a good idea!

Not only did I do it "from scratch" but I also didn't use tomato soup....I made the sauce from scratch too....along with everything else.  Talk about time consuming!

If I do it again for mom, I'll do the casserole idea for sure!

Funny you brought up stuffed cabbage because I made it for the first time ever about a month or so ago in the crockpot and hubby loved it. My plan was to make it for this Sunday until he offered to treat mom and I to dinner for mother's day - we'll order out and bring it in - no way am I going out in that madhouse on Mother's Day! Anyway, when I told him what I had planned on making he got all bummed because he loves it so much.

I love JoAnn's recipe below and might have to try that, but making it in the crockpot wasn't too bad. I got it off that 50+ crockpot website that Liz sent around.

Enjoy dinner and a movie tonight....Kathy

I LOVE Perogies but I am too lazy to make them - the ones out of the box are tasty! lol

Yes, the ones out of the box ARE tasty...but it's part of my mommy's day gift to mommy...so I wanted to do it "for real"

The box ones will win most times after this!

I used to eat two boxes of frozen pierogis covered in butter spray and hot sauce for dinner.

Cheap and filling. $3 meal!

It would double me over and send me to the toilet if I tried to do that now.

But still.... mmmmmm

We used to boil them briefly in water...cook bacon in a pan....remove the bacon....fry the boiled potato dough blobs in the bacon fat...put the bacon back in...and cover with cheddar until it melted.  Mom would add some onions, too for me and her (gotta get those veggies in, don't ya know)

The mere idea of that has me running for the bathroom at the moment, but your right...still...mmmmmmm

My grandmother (almost 75% polish) says"There's only three seasonings in polish cooking:  Pork fat, salt, and sometimes pepper"
