PRE SURGERY DIET SUGGESTIONS?
Hey I was wondering if anyone had any pre surgery diet suggestions...my surgery is scheduled for June 17, 2009..and my PATS is May 21st, 2009...now my surgeon said I had to lose ten pounds before surgery..so does that mean that when I go for PATS I have to be down my ten pounds by then? What should I start avoiding and eating right now?
I did the slim fast diet - shake for breakfast and lunch (and snack if needed) then lean protein and veggies for dinner.
Usually they like to see if off by PAT but technically I think that you have until surgery - but why take the chance of not getting there and getting sent home? Start now!
Good luck!

I also had Dr P. You have to have the 10 lbs off by the surgery. They weigh you when you check in. It's hard preop because you still have hunger. I had 7 lbs to lose so I tried to avoid sweets and starches before the PAT and the week before surgery I went to the protein shakes. You can see how much you are down at PAT and then gauge what you eat accordingly. Good luck.
First I cut out:
Sugar
Soda
Carbs
But after a day or two of that (not only had I not lost the weight before PATs I had GAINED a few pounds...) I realized I needed hard core stuff.....
So I went on a two week almost all full liquid diet.
Anyway...for your case I would start by taking out:
Sugar
Carbs
Fat
Salt (pre packaged foods contain a TON of salt...try to keep it UNDER 2000mg a day)
Increase the water and increase the exercise.
All of this will help you prepare for surgery any how.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
