Ok i have a question that maybe someone can help me out with until i get a hold of my gyno. I was previously on the birth control Yaz before surgery so i thought i was going to continue that but i heard from a friend that ppl. were getting prego from it. So i freaked out and called the dr and he put me on ortho tricyclin low. And i have never been on that and ever since i have been on it i am so nauseas. Could this bc be causing me nauseas like this. I was fine on Yaz so im not sure but if anyone knows anyting about different bc's feel free to let me know. I kinda feel like i am preggo thats the way its making me feel(and no i am not pregnant lol). Thanks-Jessica

I want to first urge you to not rely on your BCP for your only contraception. There are alot of BCP post op pregnancy due to mal absorption. So whatever you do please use a back up source.
we use 3 sometimes LOL

If you have been on low dose yaz and have gone to something higher it can cause nausea. My concern is that you rely on any pill for your sole contraception

I did hear that the chances of pregnancy are higher after surgery but we have been using the "pull-out" (sorryTMI) and the bc, so i guess your right i was on low dose yaz, so do you think i should go back on that or just wait it out and stay on what i am on and maybe it will level itself out? Geez i feel like im preggo from this pill! I do have a queezy stomach as it is so i guess it doesnt help any, thank you though!!

talk to your doctor. I really dont think it matters what dose you are on. The BCP are pretty ineffective post op by themselves

Nicole is absolutely right.  You can NOT rely on BC as your only method of birth control because of malabsorption, especially when you are early out.  You need a reliable backup method, and pulling out does NOT count.  Many women have become pregnant early out from surgery because of malabsorbing their BC pill and some of them were relying on pulling out as well.  It does not work.

It is normal when switching from one BCP to another to have nausea for a month or two.  Talk to your doctor about the change and the symptoms you are having, and s/he can advise you as to whether to continue the ortho or go back to Yaz.

I have to agree with the other three ladies - malabsorption is very common and is also in the bc "arena"  also.. pulling out...not a good idea...before *********** (sometimes well before) men excrete a pre solution many times which can be higher in sperm count than the actual ***********  So...if you are not absorbing the bc and then you are receiving sperm...you get the picture.

I was queasy on BC for a few months pre surgery.  I wasn't on either ones of the one you mentioned, though.  I think I was on yasmine (which is different than yaz from what I understand but haven't done much research on it)

I have a strong feeling its the pill causing the nausea because it started after i started taking it.

Just like our nutrients, pills aren't absorbed enough.  There's not enough intestine for it to sit in to get absorbed.

Hope you get some good answers!

BC pills aren't absorbed properly (not enough) after sugery so most sugeons reccomend a barrier menthod until you are 18-24 month out.

I was pretty damn nauseous on my BC pills when I first started them too - it does pass.

Hope this helps!
