Wondering about strictures returning and ulcers not leaving
I am thinking that I may have developed another stricture. I know that it is pretty common to have to go at least twice to have the stretching done, so I am not freaked out. Just wondering if I am being overly cautious. My stomach feels pretty much the same as it did the first time just not as intense. And I started noticing it yesterday so it hasn't gotten to the point where I am dehydrated yet or anything, but today was deffinately worse. The other thing is although the pain from the ulcer has improved, it hasn't gone away. I am still not able to drink, and believe me I have tried all kinds of different drinks. The only "liquid" I am getting in is ice chips. I let them melt in my mouth. I even tried room temperature, and slightly warm drinks too. Didn't seem to make any difference. I am running out of ideas. I seemed to improve jusst a little from about two weeks and now it is starting again. since the pain, and difficulty eating is getting worse again I think I am going to call the doc in the morning. Only problem is my doc is out of town for a week or something. So if anyone has any suggestions for something I can try I would love to hear it. And I was wondering does anyone know if that if about the right timing for a second stricture? It has been about two or two and a half weeks. Thank everyone I don't know what I would do without ya'll. Lots of Luv Belinda
I don't have to many answers for you.
I've heard strictures are a common reoccurence up to three times. I'm not sure about the time frame, though, although your 2 weeks sounds about right for some reason.
As far as the liquids go....seeing as though you can get in ice chips what about ice pops? The other thing you can try is jello - let that melt in your mouth and/or drink the jello when it is warm. I know - it sounds ridiculous - but it tastes really good.
As far as ulcers are concerned - I can't remember - you were diagnosed with them already? It seems a bit early out for you to have developed ulcers. Are they treating them with anything and have you been tested for H. Pylori? If it is H. Pylori you will need antibiotics.
Just wanted to basically send hugs your way!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Thanks for the hugs Pam. Yes I have been diagnosed with an ulcer too, the same day they found the stricture. I am not sure if they checked me or not for the H Pylori. Anyhow things seemed liked they were moving in the right direction, and then the ulcer pain just doesn't change it is always there. and now the feeling sick, and full, etc is all starting to come back too. I am not realy tolerating much of anything. I am getting in very little food, very little protein, and the bare minimum of liquids. I am concernced so I am going to call the doc tomorrow I believe. Thanks Belinda Oh and yes I am being treated for the ulcer. 1 gram of Carafate before meals and at HS, and I also take prevacid solutab, once a day.
I don't know anything about strictures but I am pretty well versed in ulcers! MIne took 3 rounds of carefete to go away and sometimes I still feel icky a year + later. I don't think that they ever totally go away that "scar" is always there in the stomach.
I'd call the Dr. Hope yo ufeel better soon!

Hi Belinda,
My husband had problems with strictures. His were approximately 2-3 weeks apart. His first happened when his surgeon was out of town another surgeon in the practice took care of it. The second was about 2-3 weeks after that, it was taken care of by his surgeon. He ended up in the doctors office on a pretty regular basis during this time needing to be hooked up to IV for fluids since he couldn't get anything in.
After the last stricture he had some problems, he was getting in just barely enough food/fluids to prevent a third trip to the OR to be scoped. His surgeon gave him the choice of being scoped again or waiting to see the outcome. He chose to wait and is satisfied he did. This all happened in 2006.
