Clothing Exchange - Yahoo Group
I've been looking for some kind of clothing exchange. I already have some clothes to get rid of and I haven't even had my surgery yet.
The one on here seems to be dead.
So, I figured I'd start my own and I'm sure many people could benefit from it.
At least one for PA. (But it doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to just here.)
So, check it out... lemmie know what you think... I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Hey Kara -
Great idea! Just as an FYI - when I was starting the WLS program in CA, they also had a clothing "swap". They actually would do it after their support meetings. It was great because everyone was in one place and they could put the clothes in piles seperated by size and everyone could just check through them after the meeting ended. Not sure if there's a "Pittsburgh" general support group, but if your bariatrics group does meet, you may be able to suggest it to them, too. Just a suggestion - it is a great idea, though!
Take care!

Hey Kelly,
There actually isn't a general Pittsburgh support group... yet.
Jena, another girl on OH, and I are starting one and trying to get things together now... Unfortunatly, we've been a little slow and finding a good centralized place to hold meetings hasn't been easy. :-/
My bariatric group is about 45 minutes away from my house and meets one Monday a month... which is the day I work late. So, I've never made it to a meeting.
Once we get the group started, I plan to have a clothing swap there also... but I figured the Yahoo Group would be great to get started and would reach a LOT more people.
Thanks for the note!

Hey Kara -
Well, if you need some help - let me know! I live in Bethel Park and my support group is in Aspinwall - also 45 minutes away! So, I'd be up for a more central location, too. Also, maybe a Saturday? My husband watches the kids for me and weeknights are difficult for him to walk in the door and me walk out it. Anyway, good luck with organizing it and let me know if I could be of any assistance. P.S. have you been to the Yahoo group for Pittsburgh WLS?

Oh, wow... you're not far from me at all. I live in Dormont.
Aspinwall is a pretty decent drive. My mom lives in New Kensington, so I pass there a lot.
We have been looking at having the meetings at Carnegie Library in Brookline but even that is a bit for a drive for Jena. She lives in Baden. So, now we're looking for somewhere around Robinson. Hopefully we find something soon. I really wanna get things started.
It will definitely be on Saturday afternoon...
You wouldn't happen to know if any venues we could hold meeting, would you? ;)
I didn't know there was a Pittsburgh WLS Yahoo group. I was trying to search for one but never came up with anything. I'll have to look again.

Kara,
here is the link to PGH support on yahoo health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pghwlssupport/
I live near robinson, i'll do some thinking on possible locations. Off hand the only things that come to me are Panera in robinson (but no cooking there) you can reserve the small meeting room. Also the small library here in imperial (just past robinson) used to rent out a community room. nothing fancy and i "think" they may even have a small kitchen. I will try to check that out and get some info.

Thanks for posting the link, Denise! I can't believe I forgot to - started typing and walked away.... Anyway - I know that there are some churches that will let you use their meeting rooms or halls for meetings, too. I went to a children's organization in CT that meet in a church basement and a Moms group I belong to here in the South Hills meets in a church in Mt Lebanon. Both had kitchens and lots of space. I could check with the Bethel Park Community Center - it's really nice (went there to vote) as well as the Bethel Park Library. That's nice that the Panera near you that has a meeting room. If there are any other places you want me to call or check out, let me know. South Hills and Robinson work for me - better than Aspinwall, that's for sure!?

Thanks, Dee!
You are awesome...
For the link and the tip on the library. We have the same thing here with the library in Dormont but they charge $25/hour to use the community room... which I think it a bunch of crap! ;)
If you can get me a phone # for the library in Imperial, I'll call them and see what's up.
Thanks a bunch....
Talk to ya soon,
Kara

Kara,
I was able to check into the communmity room at west allegheny/imperial. Its more expensive than dormont....$50 for 2 hours, plus $50 refundable deposit.
I will keep my eyes opened, but another thought was a Church in Robinson...i cant remember the name right now but its pretty easy access off of i-79/rt 60. i'll check into it.
