exercise question
Ok all you exercise freaks.. I just came from the gym where I did some cardio work. I did 20 mins of "random" on the treadmill (mostly because I only have 1/2 hour lunch). But, I was wondering... is it better to improve on your time (ie. go the same distance, only faster each time) or to last longer and go further? Should I be walking longer instead of trying to improve my timed mile?
I guess it ultimately depends on your goal, but for me, it's all about seeing how far I can get in the time allotted.
I wouldn't want to focus on shortening my time, but rather making the best use of the time I have.
Does that make sense?
I would ditch the "random" setting, and start tracking your speed, incline, time, and calories/distance.
Watch your numbers, and make small incremental changes to your speed and incline as you feel ready.

Right now I am training for a race on May 17th. I am focusing on distance and not the time it takes me to get there. But like Norm said - it depends on your goals.

You can't measure your achievements with someone else's yardstick!

right now, I guess my goal is weight loss and increased strength. I am doing strength training with the trainer.. did not think to ask him this question yesterday..DUH..
I guess I should really be thinking distance so I can do the 5K with my daughter on May 31...
Guess I just answered my own question, huh. Thanks!!

If you only have a half hour to work out then to get the most out of that work out increase the intenisity! Either raise the incline more than a flat level and or increase your speed every 2-3 minutes into sprints 1 minute at a time....you will burn more calories in a short period of time by just doing that....increasing the intensity...and work up a really good sweat too! Good Luck grlie!
