National Success Story - Me???

So its Day 25 post plastics and I am back in Madison, Wisconsin at my clients office.  Last night I stopped into the gym where I work out daily when I am here.  For the 3 weeks I was home recovering from the surgery - the trainer and owner of the gym checked in with me often to see how I was doing.

My intent was merely to stop in and thank them, but instead it turned into somewhat of a WOW moment as they had a proposal waiting for me  Apparently the owner - isnt just an owner of the franchise (and 12 other locations) he is one of the original founders of the chain.  The gym currently has something like 1,500 locations nationwide.

They asked if I would be interested in becomming a National Success Story for the chain of Fitness Centers.  This would entail going to the national conference, going to grand openings of new clubs, speaking to potential franchisees, speaking to other patrons - lots of publiicity.  I just stood there in shock and the only question I could muster was - could they wait until my swelling went down before we took pictures.

They laughed and said that the lawyers would have a packet of information and stuff for me to read through by Thursday before I make any decisions.  I have to tell you - I have become pretty depressed over the past week and a half (primarily from being so swollen and not being able to exercise).  This really came out of left field for me and has helped pull me somewhat out of this little depression.

I will update as I get more details on thier offer.   Im still in shock.

I think that is wonderful!  What a nice surprise.

Obviously they were aware of your plastics....and I can only assume due to your passion that they are aware of the bypass as well?  I'm just wondering if you would be asked to "hide" the fact that you had bypass as well? I'm surely not saying that the bypass is the reason you have had all the success because as we all know it is simply a tool.  A tool which you have worked wonders with and have pushed yourself above and beyond to make the new you the best possible you.

Good luck!

Kim,
That is absolutely fantastic.  You have continually shown what hard work and dedication to your plan can do for you.  No, this news is not surprising to me at all.  You have turned into a gym rat and put in the time to be in the position you are.  This is just a chance to reep the benefits of your hard work.

Maybe they can give you a little leeway and meet you half way.  With your incredibly busy travel schedule I would guess it would be difficult to make all the commitments they may want from you.  Considering your success, it would be to their benefit. You continue to be a huge inspiration to so many on here Kim, myself included.  I wish I had half the determination you have.  How cool is this, one of our own as a spokesperson for a gym?  Good for you girl.

Pam - its always a tough topic for me because I do work so hard with exercise and food choices that when I meet new people and the typical response is..'Oh did you have one of THOSE surgeries?'   I have learned not to let it bother me so much and I usually launch into somewhat of a rant that it was a starting block.

They are very aware that I had my bypass and are ok with that part of it.  While I have been here in their gym I have worked with a few other people in exercise routines and rotations.  I have especially talked with a number of UW students who are working out that are fairly heavy in advising them with tips on how I got started and worked my way up (physically).  Two girls in particular took my advice, put down the weights and concentrated on food choices (throwing out the word diet)  and cardio and with in 2 months had quite a bit of bulk off and moved back into much lighter weights.

I will not hide my bypass, but I am realistic that there are many closed minded people who choose to believe that anyone who has the surgery wakes up from the surgery thin and fabulous.
