i just wanted to drop a line to say hello! my name is dee-dee, i have met some of you @ the barix meeting in langhorne. i read posts, but never respond...i had surgery 3/25 and so far i'm down about 34lbs (i don't own a scale, so i really don't know)...i had my first wow, moment when i went to wear my Butterfly Bra (Ashley Stuart) that was too small for me on new years eve--the bra is the bomb, please if you are a big boobed woman google it--when i purchased it, i knew a 44DDD was too small, but i thought i would sqeeze, but i ended up looking deformed, lol. i wore that bra Sat. and it fit perfectly!!!

so far, everything, except excercise has come easy for me. that's my struggle. i am really beating myself up about it. ah, oh well, i'm babbling now, lol...bye!

Dee dee,

I don't think I've met you at the meetings - my work schedule as of late has prevented me from getting there.

Sounds like you are doing well - hopefully the weather will help you get up and moving.  Exercise is soooo key to this journey!!!

Glad you are posting as lately it's the only way I seem to be able to stay in touch with people!

Hi Dee-Dee and welcome to the PA Boards! Its good to come out and post and read - it helps all of us, including yourself - lets us all know we're not alone in our struggles even following surgery - gives us all encouragement when we need it.

Don't beat yourself up about exercise - do something about it! When I first started my journey the only thing I could manage was short walks because I was so heavy, so I started slowly and eventually worked myself into a gym routine. Got out of that a while back but have now joined Curves and love it, along with my walking and bike. Try different things and see what you like - some people become addicted to exercise - I can honestly say I'm not one of them but it does feel great when I do it so that's why I try to stick to it.

Congrats on the first WOW! I didn't weigh myself at home until after 6 months - I got weighed when I had my appts at Barix. Now I weigh myself once a week. Again, this is a personal choice - some weigh every day - whatever works for you.

Welcome again!

Kathy

Take care,

hi Dee Dee!  I'm still pretty much a newbie on these boards myself, so welcome to the club!

Congrats on the bra moment - that's a really great and measurable change that must make you feel awesome!

As to exercise, I can certainly relate.  I have always hated exercise - i don't like the way i feel during or afterward, largely because my body just plain HURT... and I've always been embarassed and felt that people were watching/judging me (oh look at the fat girl trying to exercise, haha).   That was a core motivation in getting the Wii and the Wii Fit.  I can "play" (and vary the types of exercise games) in the privacy of my home so no one else sees how uncoordinated I am.  And I've experimented and foudn things that I really have some fun with... things that I woudl be mortified (at least until now) to do in front of other people:  hula hooping, dance dance revolution, step aerobics, yoga... and i can do them at my own level and pace without feeling intimidated.  And guess what - it's working!  I can see and feel and measure the change in my stamina and flexibility and my body isn't hurting as much when i do it anymore!   So I'm also doing walking outside a bit now, and that's feeling good too.

The point I'm trying to make is to figure out what the barriers are and then experiment to find something that doesn't feel like a chore (dancing? hula hooping? skiing?) and try that.  When you find something that's FUN, you want to do it and can use that as a reward to yourself.

Hope this helps!

Hi DeeDee.. I did not have my surgery at Barix, but have every intention of getting out there to a Saturday support group meeting one of these days.  I hear those group leaders are AWESOME!!   I have met quite a few people at Liz's house and they are great.

Welcome to the best board around!! Congrats on the bra, too!  Exercise will come.  You just had your surgery a month ago. You can't expect to get up and start running miles or doing anything crazy.  Just do what you can and it will come in time.  I am just a bit over 2 months post op and just joined a gym 2 weeks ago.  I am working with a trainer and am taking it slow.  It'll come.  You're already down 34 lbs so that will help with the energy level, which will in turn help with the motivation to get up and moving at the gym!

Stay on the boards, read lots, post lots.  We are here for you!
