Splenda products
I am allergic to all the artificial sweeteners other than splenda / sucralose. Going into surgery i was really afraid that would mean that there would be too few options for me afterward, but I'm finding some excellent things (just have to look harder). Thought I'd share a couple in case they help anyone else with the allergy... Found these at Wegman's btw.
Instead of Crystal Light (all of which is aspartame), I found 4C brand "Totally Light 2 Go" in both 5 flavors of tea and 4 flavors of fruit. They have variety packs, which is great for figuring out which flavors you like best, too!
Instead of Jello, I found that Hunts Snack Packs pudding and jell (premixed 3.5 oz cups - non refrigerated) are available with Splenda in a wide variety of flavors. AND...For the person who posted that they avoid gelatin due to being vegetarian... the Hunts jello doesn't contain gelatin.
I also found Dr Oetker Mousse Supreme Light (in the pudding aisle), sweetened with Splenda. it's a 5-minute prep, mixes with milk. Doesn't contain any protein but looks like it would work with Matrix or something like that pretty well.
Hope these ideas help someone!

Splenda is becoming more and more popular - I have found that if I take the time to read labels there is a TON! everything from candy to maple syrup!
Oh and I was allergic to all the fake sweeteners pre-op too - gave me massive migraines and upset bowels - now - NO PROBLEMS!! I am wondering if the part of the intestine that it bothered has since been removed -that or my body knows it doesn' t have a choice! lol
THere is also Diabetisweet - it is isomalt, works just like sugar in cooked applications - tastes great in my opinion too!

Those are all great suggestions! Also...once you mix the Mousse Supreme Light with milk, it now has protein in it. I like to use milk like skim plus because it has a bit more protein than regular skim.
Keep on the hunt!
Oh - although this is NOT something you should be eating early out of surgery (because really it's empty calories and lacks the protein boost you should really be concentrating on) the edy's no sugar added ice cream is also made w/ splenda.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
