X-post Vitamin and mineral absorption one year post op?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any information or a link to a site that can provide information on vitamin and mineral absorption one year post op.  My surgeon told me that with time I would be able to absorb more since the small intestine grows more villi. 

This can get sort of complicated since different sections of the small intestine absorb different vitamins and minerals e.g. iron is absorbed in the duodenum and B12 in the terminal ileum.

What are you taking in the way of vitamins and minerals one year post op to maintain normal ranges on your labs?

My understanding of it has always been I will need to supplement for life and that absorption does not increase so much that you can stop taking supplements.

Here is what my doc has had me on from 2 weeks out and has no plans to change it:

Centrum Vitamin one table two times a day
Calcium Citrate + D 1000mg - 1500mg a day
B1 100mg a day
B12 sublingual 1000mcg at least 3-5 x week, or every day.  My levels when I take it daily run high and I can't sleep so I normally get it in about 4 x a week

I've also just recently added folic acid to my regimine cause I'm trying to get pregnant - but I don't forsee you having that problem lol

Ron - my levels have always been OK with the exception of B12 and I now take

1 pre-natal a day (this was a centrum multi - I was absorbing TOO much from 2!)
5000 MG of B12 sublingual a day
folic acid (like Pam, I am trying to get pregnant so this one won't apply to you!)
1500 MG Calcium Citrate

MY Dr said that these are for life! The only thing that will change is the folic acid.
