Protein Questions

Wow thanks for all the info. May I ask why the Greek yogurt? SF? More protein? I sent for some samples of unflavored protein (among others) and am stocking up on all my liquids, purees, etc. 35 days and counting!

How about protein water. K2O (special K) has 7 grams. Anyone drink that or is there too much sugar?

I would guess that K20 has too much sugar - more then 2 grams is a no-no

Greek yogurt is MUCH higher in protein then regular yogurt. IT is tart - tastes more like sour cream - I add sugar free preserves to it or use it as sour cream on taco meat, or in dips etc. I have also heard of people adding jello crystals, crystal light crystals, fresh or frozen fruit, splenda, davinci sugar free syrups etc into it. I also like making a smoothie with it - frozen fruit, splenda, greek yogurt and some soy milk. It is a great protein punch at 17 grams for 7 ounces and is OK is almost every stage of healing.

Hope all this helps!

PS there are also protein "bullets" that some like - they come in like a test tube vial and well I think that they are nasty but if you chug it you get something like 30 grams of protein in 3 ounces. I remember Pam saying she treated it as medicine and would "shoot" it out a medicine cup to get it down - I think that there are just so much tastier ways to get protein! lol

Yup - just try your very very bestest to get the protein in.  You may not hit your goal every day early out but you MUST try.  And you must understand it is for your benefit.  I had to take the "harsh" advice of Norm when I was early out and had to come to understand "It was like medicine and you must take it.  Don't look for a shake you enjoy - look for one you can tolerate and just do it"

I found one I could tolerate and I just did it.  And on occassion I used the profect or new whey "protein bullets" which is 25 or 50gm of protein in 3 ounces depending on the brand.  They were the most god awful tasting foul smelling things ever.  However, three chugs and you were done with it, and it was 25 or 50gm of protein done.

I do like the idea of adding the greek yogurt and/or ricotta cheese to the protein shakes.  Early out I did not know about the greek yogurt but now I eat it daily and on the occassions I make a "shake" for myself (yes even 16 mos out I make shakes...but I don't use the protein powder....) I add it to it.

Good luck!

That's a good way to look at it! Medicine! Now I just have to get over the fear that this is going to work for everyone else but me!!! When I was pregnant I was convinced I was the only women in the world who would not be able to deliver!!!
