Looking for Support Groups...

 I'm in Wayne, PA.  As I read this board, most folks seem to have had their surgeries at Barix and I don't really know the towns on people's avatars.  I had my RNY at HUP and was not impressed with their support group.

Is anyone near me? ...any support groups? ...I'd love to attend.

I'm in the same boat but far from you. I'm having surgery in Hershey but live in Wilkes-Barre.  I'd love to attend one.

YOu have Geisinger and YES they do have support groups. I would call and Im sure they would be more then willing to let you attend, We also have one here in schuylkill county as well in Orwigsburg.

I've been told they don't, but I guess I should check for myself.

there is a meeting every tuesday up your way it used to meet  at gmc, but has moved to a another place...ruth frey is the one to contact.......I have not been to it, but have met her at gmc in danville.......I live in schuylkill county and attend the once a month one in barix in langhorne, it is really great and last four hours......I also love the meetings in Montoursville every other thursday evening at 630.......and one in orwigsburg once a month....the ones at gmc in danville are the first and third monday at 4 .....mostly preops, but there is usually a bunch of us post ops there. I am waiting to hear from gmc in danville about starting a postop meeting twice a month on the opposite  mondays,, I am waiting to hear....it would be a night though.............but until then I go to any  I can....it is important to me for the support..........email me, maybe we could hook up and go to a meeting together....

 Hey, Lois.  Thanks for all the info.  I don't know how close I am to any of those places, but I'll check.  And who knows?...maybe we will meet up one day.

Untrue.  My surgeon is in Scranton.  Geisinger does also perform WLS, and there are doctors in hazleton as well.

I think there is a serious lack of information up here in NEPA!!!!

Im not sure if this was in response to me, but I'll answer anyway. I KNOW Geisinger does perform WLS in Wilkes-Barre, however, I AM NOT having my surgery at Geisinger. I'm having it at Hershey and I live in WB. Although Hershey has support groups, I won't be able to attend as it is 2 hourse from my home.

I don' t think Geisinger would allow me to join their support group having not had surgery there.

I was merely correcting your original response, which was "there are no hospitals around here that perform WLS".

For people who are researching, etc. it's important to clarify misinformation that is posted on these boards.
