Wonder if am easily offended or if she was really rude...

I was in Talbots yesterday looking for something to wear, and the saleslady says to me, looking at my stomach, "You don't want anything too clingy."

She was trying to be constructive I suppose, but I still wanted to pop her.

My guess is she was trying to be helpful, but could have done it in a different way.  We can carry others comments with us for a long time, but why waste a minute of life on someone else's words right?  Instead, be proud of yourself for being able to shop in Talbots!!  That is awesome!

"yea, especially like a salesperson" would have been a nice come back.

I agree - she was trying to be helpful - but words are not her forte (sp?)

And HG is right - don't waste another moment on her words.  Take a look at that pic of you in the dress on Easter - that is the TRUE story.

Another good response would have been 'You're absolutely right, and all this stuff looks cheap and clingy - I think I'll go shop somewhere else'. Of course we never think of these things when people make rude comments - we're too taken aback by them, but I'll be damned if I ever shopped in that store again.

Rude and ignorant would be my guess.  Shake it off, and shop elsewhere.  I hate having sales people follow me when I shop for anything.  I prefer to shop alone, except when my daughter and I are together.  She is always picking out youthful styles for me to wear, and makes constructive suggestions, like, "Mom, you need a push-up bra."  I tell her that I used to have great boobs, but she and her brothers sucked the life out of them when I nursed them.  We have a good laugh, and I get bargains that are stylish.

Pat yourself on the back for being able to shop in a normal store.  That was my primary goal in having the surgery.

Hugs,
Trish

Irionic I should see this post. I was in a consignment shop on Street Rd in feasterville and the snot nose person there made the omment "we do smaller sizes" and looked at me up and down and my response to her was hmmm and I decieded to take Norm's adivce which is your day is as good as you let it be.  I felt like saying to her wow were you always this polite or is today my lucky day? Being as sarcastic as I can be but now I have gone from being sarcastic to sutle. My way of dealing with it is to not go back and tell everyone about my not pleasant experience. Word gets around especially the negative ones. I always say living well is the best revenge.
