Infection from RNY

When I woke up Wed and my incision that had been hurting, had turned red, I decided it was time to call the doctor again and be more forceful this time.  They saw me and I had to have my incision re-opened right then and there in the office.  OMG - the pain and smell.  I guess I had quite an infection in there.  I'm too much of a wimp to look, but from what I understand my new wound is quite deep and has to be kept open to heal completely from the inside out.  So now, instead of being in my second recovery week, I feel like I am back to day one.  I have to have a nurse come and repack it each day.  This will be for about 2 weeks.  All this crap and I still only lost 3 pounds since the surgery.  I'm assuming the low number has something to do with the infection.

Hang in there.....sorry you are going through all of this.

I'm glad you got some answers and hopefully they will be able to clear the infection with the packing and the nursing care over the next few weeks.

Your weight loss will show eventually - and you are probably retaining fluid and other yucky stuff in that wound, so as that drains, you will begin to see the weight drop off!

((hugs))

So sorry to hear about your infection - that's never a good thing to have to deal with, but its good that you were forceful with your doctor because nobody knows your body like you do. Praying that the infection clears soon so your incision can heal and you can be on your way. Don't get too discouraged with minimal weight loss right now - most people go a few weeks (myself included) before noticing a significant loss - mostly due to fluid retention, your body healing and trying to hold onto the fat because it thinks you're starving now - but it will come and you'll be dropping pounds like never before soon.

Take care of yourself - let your wound heal and feel better soon.

I am sorry to hear that you are going through that, and Hooray for you in insisting that something was wrong. I am going through the same thing. Only thank God my incision opened on it's own and has been draining for something like two and a half weeks now. The first antibiotic I was on didn't help and the infection got worse, now I am on a stronger second antibiotic. This one seems to be doing the trick. Hang in there although it is disappoionting you will get through it. Belinda

Wow,I'm sorry to hear that you both have had infections. Please make sure that you finish every last dose of your antibiotics, even as you feel better. I wish you both a speedy recovery and hope that you feel better soon. The weight loss will come, your body needs to heel right now. Don't forget your fluids/vitamins/protein.

I'm so sorry that you have an infection and have experienced so much pain.  I hope the infection clears up very soon and that the pain subsides soon too.  Hang in there -- we are all thinking of you!
