Surgery date May 14th.. Started to cut back.. now starting to get sick to my stomach
I received my surgery date over 3 weeks ago and I made a mental challenge to myself to start to cut back on portions and the bad stuff (sugar beverages and cakes). These two areas are what I thought were my biggest down falls.
So my first week, I started out cutting back with the sugar beverages. No more Pepsi or Ice Tea. Only water, crystal light and an occasionally diet soda. The second week was no more cakes out of the vending machine. The third week was to start to cut back portions to more of a managable size.
Well of course yesterday was Easter at Gram's and I had a piece of Stock's pound cake and on the drive home, I started not to feel so hot. Just kinda of YUCK! Then today I got a regular size Tuna hoagie with just sweet and hot peppers. And a bag of baked chips. Well after I started to eat, I actually left 1/4 of the hoagie and half of bag of the chips in the trash. And of course I had already had 64 ounces of water. Now I am at home and I really feel like crap.
So I guess I my body is just feeling the effects of me doing the right thing, but I hate the way it is making me feel.
Anybody have any suggestions. Of course I am not going to add this stuff back, because I am so mentally ready for this. And I think the only problem that I am having with nerves are what I am going to be able to eat after the surgery.
Well thanks for letting me vent.

your body really does crave good food and doesn't like it when we go back.
Don't stress about what you wont be able to do or eat, focus on what you will be able to do. I spent a lot of time having last meals and going to restaurants I never thought I would go to again pre op. Was a waste of time and mental energy. At 2 1/2 years out I can eat most things, just not allot of it. I do not eat sugar at all because that was my promise to myself. So the only thing i miss is the sugar, the Easter candy, dough nuts. But I do not miss them enough to weigh 360 lbs again.
Your life will be different but not so much that you cannot enjoy yourself. Make some hard fast rules about what you will and will not do before hand, Then stick with them. That gives you the power. I chose not to ever try sugar because frankly I did not need that temptation on the table. I do not go to restaurants that i Used to abuse myself preop such as McDonald's, burger king king etc. I do not miss them. I don't drink diet soda and I did not try alcohol again until well after 2 years.
I am not bragging or saying look at me, just telling you what worked for me. You have the power to orchestrate your recovery from obesity. You will be fine.

Thanks Nicole. Right now I am enjoying the bad foods because that is what I am preparing myself. Very funny that the promises that you made yourself are very similar to my own. Giving up the sugar, dough nuts (my passion) and the fast food restaurants.
The last couple of weeks are more of a mental preparation for myself so that I can make sure that all of the stuff I am mourning for is out of my system before the surgery.
I know several people that are in your same situation. They can go to almost any place to eat and just limit what they eat but do the same about there temptations.
But thanks for the help. And I guess you are correct our bodies and minds what this crap, but as soon as we introduce it back into our system, the physical part is not so friendly. Thanks for the help.

You've done an amazing job thus far, and I commend you for your committment this early out.
Nicole hit a lot of it on the head. Don't worry to much about what you will and won't have after surgery. There are lots of ways to make your favorite foods wls friendly after a time period. And most of them are AWESOME.
It's a good thing you don't like the way your body feels after eating the crap. It shows you how bad that stuff is for you. And also - if you have something after surgery you really shouldn't chances are you will feel even worse than you do now - and lemme tell you - no one enjoys that!
Hang in there and keep making those better choices!
