Hello To Everyone! Newbie!
Hello to Everyone! My name is Heidi and I live in Lebanon. I had DS Surgery May 10, 2002 with Dr Hazem Elariny in Virginia. I set my goal weight at 145 and I made it down to 148 (which I was totally fine with). I maintained my weight and flexed from 150 to 155 until about 1 1/2 years ago when I quit smoking! Now I know I am much healthier because I quit smoking, but I developed A LOT of bad eating habits! I also have forgotten that my DS surgery is a tool, not a free ticket to eat & drink whatever I want. My Dr has also prescribed Prempro (hormone therapy) for my unbearable heat flashes. So between the hormones and just bad eating habits, I have gained back almost 40 lbs!
I have been doing a lot of reading on this site and others to get myself back in the right frame of mind! I know that I cant do this alone, I need support and I need to know that I am not alone!
So I look forward to being part of this group and even though I am an "old timer" I know I still have a lot to learn & maybe some knowledge to share!

Glad to meet you! And the fact that you "remember" that the DS is a tool and not a quick fix is definately a good starting point
Do you have nutritional guidelines from when you first had surgery? Maybe starting there would be a good place to start? Or, at the very least, make sure you get your fluids in. Protein first fruits/veggies next and carbs last. I know DS-ers have less "problems" with carbs - but it certainly couldn't hurt to get the "bad" ones out of your diet like white bread and crackers and pretzels and stuff (a few on this board call that "white crack powder" which I find just hysterical because it is SOOOO true!)
Looking forward to getting to know you better and to following your continuing journey with you. I'm sure you have a LOT of knowledge to pass on to us!
