WOW, Harry Kalas passes away!!!
Any Phillies fan that has followed the team through the years will never forget "It's a swing and a long fly ball, deep left field....that ball is outta heeeeeeer, home run Ryan Howard." And then there is the one we will all NEVER forget. "The wind up and the 2-2 pitch. And a swing and a miss and the Philadelphia Phillies are the 2008 world champions of baseball. Brad Lidge finishes a perfect 48-for-48 in save situations."
Unfortunately, we will never get to hear those words again. If you haven't already heard, the great Phillies hall of fame announcer passed away today at the age of 73. It is truly a tough day for the Phillies family and their fans. Harry Kalas will truly be missed. Now Harry will be looking down upon his beloved Phillies, alongside his good friend Richie "Whitey" Ashburn. My prayers go out to your family Harry. I will miss you!!!

"No matter how hard life may get, no matter how many curveballs you are thrown, keep in mind, if you want to succeed - QUITTING IS NOT AN OPTION"!!!
Yes I heard the sad, sad news - my husband is born and bred in Philadelphia and a die-hard Phillies and Harry the K fan, and I know he is so sad right now. Watching the game will never be the same for him, but at least Harry got to see AND announce his beloved Phils winning another World Series and getting their rings last week.
Hey Kathy,
Yeah, I was actually thinking that he had been waiting for that moment to make his exit. They say you are born with a death date by some religions and this quite possibly could have been the plan for Harry all along. He sure enough suffered through enough tough seasons and the whole world series title and parade and ring ceremony may have been God's final reward for a truly great, great man. From what I've been hearing on the radio and TV and reading on ESPN.com, the man didn't have a single enemy in the world. He will surely be missed.

Harry got to throw the ceremonial 'first pitch' the night the Phillies received their World series rings. What a tribute!
Harry, you will be missed.... and the announcers at the game today actually sobbed through the first innings and then called a subdued game..with lots of Harry anecdotes... a fitting tribute!
Rest in Peace, Harry, and I hope you and Whitie will continue to call the games in heaven!
