Hi all - Does Dr. Pupkova put in a catheter when she does her surgeries??

I've only ever had emergemcy surgery to remove my gallbladder and they did not put one in.

Just wondering whether she does it and if so, does it hurt??

Thanks, Lisa

No catheter with Dr. Pupkova!  It was actually one of the many reasons I wanted her as my surgeon.

I didnt have one, unless they put it in after I was out and took it out before I woke up. LOL

She definitely doesn't put one in while you're under and then take it out -- I had that done during a previous surgery and it still hurt when I woke up, even though it was out!  I also know that Dr. P doesn't do this because one of the nurses told me that I peed while on the operating table.  She said that's not uncommon and that's why you have to lie on that pad thing they put between you and the table.  And yes, they changed it before I woke up, so I wouldn't have known unless she told me.

Sorry for the TMI but I figured it's good to be informative!

Oh that is great I have Dr Pupkova for my surgeon and my surgery is on June 3, 2009 and I was wondering the same thing about a cath or not because I have heard that others have had it and she did not mention anything to me about it so I had no idea when others were talking about it. I am so glad for that one! So how did you make out going to the bathroom after surgery? I heard that someone tell me to bring a long wooden spoon to wrap the TP around so you can wipe because it will hurt to much to bend to wipe is that true?

I have short arms (I'm barely 5'3" so short arms and legs) and I was able to wipe just fine.  I didn't even give it a second thought.  I think maybe with an open procedure it would be a challenge, but with laproscopic I was just fine.

Hi
Dr. P does not use foley catheters for her patients. I did have one for my hysterectomy and it didn't hurt comin our it feels weird but doesn't hurt.
as far as wiping after your surgery , yes it is awkward but you can do it. In Dec. I had a TT and hysterectomy at the same time and I was able to do it with my hand, there are just some things you have to do
