C-pap woes......
Hi everyone -
I'm just about one week out from starting with the C-pap machine. I'm having some trouble. I can't seem to keep the thing on at night. I have been able to keep it on for 3-4 hours. Then I wake up and take it off. How do I make myself keep it on ?????
I'm also concerned about the type of data that is received from the little card when Barix checks it at my PAT's. I'm required to have 200 hours. Is it 200 hours total or 200 hours of good sleep sessions (6-8 hours consecutive). I have plenty of time to get the 200 hours in even if I only get 3-4 hours per night, since PAT's aren't until June 1. I'll have a problem though if they are looking for 6-7 hours consecutive.
Maybe I'm worrying uselessly and this is just how it works when starting on the machine.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks, Lisa

First, you are doing great! I think that 3-4 hours per night the first week is normal. My first week I could only sleep those 4 hours and then I was up for the day. I figured that my body was used to 7 hours of crappy apnea sleep, and now was okay with 4 hours of good sleep. You will adjust over time and be able to sleep with it all night.
At Barix, you just need 200 hours. 200 hours are 200 hours, as long as they're therapy hours (meaning you're actually wearing it) and not blower hours (you took it off and just let it run). They can tell the difference. In order to get their 200 hours, some people will wear it while they're awake, so really, don't worry about getting it all in 6-7 hour blocks.
It really sounds like you're doing great. Good luck with it! You'll have your 200 hours before you know it!

I had trouble with the cPAP too at first...in order to get my hours in and ensure I had the 200 by my surgery date..I would come home and put it on and watch tv or read for an hour or two each afternoon after work. It helped cause mine was always coming off at night!! LOL But just stick with it!! Plus the CPAP really does help you sleep better!! Good luck!!!

Over 176+ lbs lost since surgery!! :-)
See my profile for my OH Blog!!
I also had problems with mine. 4-5 hours a night was my maximum. Then I would wake up, tear it off and fall back asleep.
They do count the blower hours only - you do have enough time to makke up the hours, just put it on every night though to make sure.
The good news is that I had the surgery on March 3rd and have not been wearing it for a couple of weeks already. No snoring and I feel great!
Good Luck to you!!!

I have no advice for you as I have never worn one before - but it sounds like you got great advice already, which of course, I would expect nothing less from this wonderful board!
Just wanted to say good luck!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Its two hundred hours total and the sleep study lab or place where you obtained the machine can read the card for you and do a letter if need be. I don't know if the clinic can do it? I went to the sleep lab at Holy Redeemer. The c-pap machine takes a little getting used to I had the same problem and I needed to relax I felt like I had a bridle on no pun intended as I own 2 horses. It does take some getting used to so try to relax and I noticed that once I got used to it I also felt better-rested. I was so happy that after my surgery I lost weight and was able to return the machine and now have more room on my nightstand. When you take it off just sort of give yourself a few minutes, relax, calm down and put it back on and think well the sooner I log 200 hours the quicker I get this surgery and start losing weight and feel better about myself. Hang in there.
