I have an appt with Jess (the NUT) next week and I have had someone tell me that she was about useless, that they learned more about how to eat with the lapband from OH posters.  Just wondering if anyone else thought the same way??  And can you tell me about how long your appointment lasted?  Thanks!

Hi!

I did get some very basic information from Jess when I first started out.  The appointment lasted about 20 minutes.  What I found frustrating is that she would tell me one thing and then the doctor would tell me to do something completely different.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

Hi there Dr. Davidson did my lap RNY on March 20 I have only had two appointment with Jess. That being said, as questions have come up post op and I am looking over the material and advice I got from her, and thinking about the appointment with her I have been thinking the same things. I am interested in seeing if maybe I got it wrong and she really is good at her job, but right now the impression I have is she does the bare minimum just to get by and doesn't really take an interest or give in depth education. Hope you have a better experience.

All my exepriences with Jess have been wonderful.   Her appointment time can vary. I have been with her for as little as 15 minutes and as long as 40 it depends on  what we have to talk about. My usual appointments consist of  Jess looking over my  food charts, talking about what I can/cant  eat things I should try. Usually try to set a goal for each month. I cant say that I thought she was useless but everyone has their opinons.  I can say that because my insurance requires me to have a 6 month physican supervised diet and meet with a nutritionist  I see her, I have access to a licensed nutrionist here at work but can not use them since we both work for the Insurance company, in comparision to the one's staffed here there is no difference.  I have been seeing Jess now for 3 months and have lost 7 pounds just from listening to her and changing my eating habits, I go back to see her tomorrow so I am anxious to see how much more came off. Only advice I can give you is go in with a clear mind dont let other opinons cloud your judgment right away, ask question and decide for yourself.

Hey neighbor.....I thought Jess was nice to talk to, I only saw her once...But, I did and still do learn more off the OH web site and from my OH friends than I did with Jess...She doesn't really talk in detail about the broad array of food choices...I myself have asked and read things on here, or modified my meals myself...It really isn't that hard to do it your self...I know you will do fine...In the begining I did the broths and jello and SF popscicles. Then I did alot of egg drop soup and cream of wheat and cream soups...really smooth mashed pot. with FF gravy...It will get easier as you go..Atkins Moca and Carmel shakes are fantastic.for protein...I am now 22 days out and doing great...I eat, tuna fish, egg salad, mashed up pot.  speg. sauce mixed with ricotta cheese and micro.its really good. string cheese...I just had chicken nuggets , 3, (minus the outside crust) with honey mustard sauce...I drink alot of 1% milk (about 3 glasses a day) Don't fret, it is easy..Let me know when you get a date...."Lucky" Oh by the way, I fixed my blog. but ended up deleting it by mistake...lol

Hi,

I have to say my experience with Jess was great.  She always answered my questions and I never felt as though I was clueless.  I guess you get what you put into it.  My insurance required that I have 3 months with her before they approved me for the surgery.  Then I had another appointment with her right before surgery to discuss post-op diet.  She also told me to call her if I ever have any questions.  I found her to be a very nice person who seemed to be well informed and I felt she really cared.  All I can say is that I was very satisfied and I am a picky person.

My insurance required 6 month supervised diet so I chose to do it with the WLC, and so saw Jess every month for those 6 months, then again right before surgery (which was 3/19/09).  I found her to be very professional and knowledgable.  I started out wanting the lap band surgery, however about 4 months into my diet, I really opened up to Jess about my eating habits and we had a really good conversation that ended up with her suggesting that I may want to think about RNY instead.  After some soul searching, I decided to take that advice; the surgeon then said he thought I was making the right decision.
My appts with her lasted anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.  My advice would be to put forth as much effort as you can - I was asked to keep food logs and although it was a pain - I did it and that really helped Jess see where changes could be made etc.
