So, what does the number matter

Ok I'm having a LOT of trouble wrapping my head around this.  Hubby is tired of hearing about it and doesn't get it.  And quite frankly, neither do I.  I don't know WHY this is bothering me so much.

I still fluctuate the same 5 pounds I have since Sept (127-132 except for those lovely water retention days)

My size 2 jeans from Old Navy still fit perfectly fine, even right out of the dryer.

My small/medium tops still fit me.

My little B cups still fit me (unfortunately! LOL)

However I have been shopping in the past few weeks.  I got a nice party dress for a family function I have coming up in April.  I bought it from "black house white market" which is upper scale (IMHO - meaning it wasn't 50% off at Kohls/Walmart/Target.  I'm not used to paying those prices, so that, for me, is upper scale) clothing store.  It was a size 4.  The first time I actually took a size TWO into the dressing room and it was to tight.  Ok...it's a dress...it's a little formal...the cut is probably a little different.  No big deal.

Then last week we were at a mall and I saw a cute pair of beige jeans and a cute pair of beige capris in a petite that actually didn't make me look like I was wearing a pair of jeans that was just a tad to short (most capris don't look right on me....I look like a little kid whose mom didn't update last years wardrobe after a growth spurt)  These ALSO needed to be a size 4 (both the jeans AND the capris)

For whatever reason, I am having issues with the size four thing.  Now rewind 16 mos ago and I would have never even IMAGINED being a size four.  Let alone a size two.  And completely forget being "upset" about NEEDING to get a size four.

Intelectually I understand every clothing store is different and that each manufacturer fits me different.  Emotionally, though, I feel like I'm doing something wrong and am "slipping" BECAUSE I "have" to have those articles in clothing in that size.

Don't get me wrong, I make *mostly* healthy choices.  I'm no where near perfect, but I certainly try to keep it together.  I get exercise in.  Not as much as I should and I understand that needs to change.

So....why am I obsessing over the different sizes?

Ideas....or am I just crazy?

It is just like obsessing with numbers on the scale. I can wear anywhere from a 12 to a 16 depending on the store. I have noticed that the better the clothes the higher the size, not sure why (and of course my "better clothes" are JCPenny, Boscovs etc)

COngrats on the 2/4! At least there isn't a "2" infront of either of those numbers!!

*hugs* I'm here if you need anything!

Yes, at least there is not a 2 in front of either of those numbers.

I guess I've traded my scale obsession for clothing size obsession.  Looks like I'll be working on that next, huh?  LOL

Thanks Liz!

It really is no big whoop. REALIZING that IS a big thing though, and quite hard.

You women and your numbers!

Seriously. You KNOW that stores size their clothes differently.

I have two pair of jeans that I wear all the time.

One is a 32, one is a 38. Both fit great. Imagine that.

You're doing fine, and I trust that you'll know if you're REALLY letting yourself "slip."

I don't see it happening.

We work hard to get to a "goal," and then we have to work hard to live happy and helthy in the "flux."

Pam, I gave up on obsessing over the size of my pants along time ago. At American Eagle, I wear a size 6, at Gap, I wear an 8, at Old navy I wear a 4. Well not at the current moment, but you get my drift.

Womens clothes are ridiculous with it's sizing. It's never consistant, and makes no sense. I'd rather worry about the scale number than a pant size number. And even then I try not to. what I obsess mostly over is when I have a great pair of jeans that fit good and they start to feel snug. Then....I know I have a problem.

So yeah, you are crazy  ....but we all are. LOL

Except Norm, who always seems to be able to keep it straight! LOL. But the rest of us still struggle with what we think we should be, what we are, and what we see ourselves as.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Jason and I Have been working on this one.
the number means nothing how do you put a number on a shape and size of your being?
Different items of clothing fit in different ways.

I think that in some ways you may be trying to break this. I know I do. So you are finding the things to criticize and be unhappy with. when i feel less in control about my food I get like this too

As always you are probalby right on target.  My food choices weren't great this week and I had less control in general of everything...so I probably chose this to "control"

You could make a killing just on us and our personal/weight loss issues, you realize this, yes?
