Decided to take the plung
Hello all, I actaully stumbled accross this site by accident and am glad I did. I have been toying with the idea of having gastric bypass surgery now for about a year and a half now. I had my consult in January and now due to insurance requirements will have about 4 more months before the actual surgery will be scheduled. I am scared and excited at the same time. Reading your post's makes it sit a little better. This site seems to be a wonderful support system. Working full time and haveing a daughter involved in so many after school activities does not allow me to participate in my surgoen's office support nights, I think this will help.
Welcome aboard - its very normal to be nervous and scared at the same time, and don't fret over the 4 month wait - my initial consult was in June and my surgery wasn't until the following February - you'll get there.
Most support groups are open to anyone who has had weight loss surgery, so if you can't attend your surgeon's group look around and you might find some on a Saturday or another evening that is close enough for you to attend. They are extremely important. I love the Barix support meetings but its an hour drive for me each way and difficult for me to get to, but there is another support meeting locally on a Saturday run by a local hospital and I have always felt welcome there.
And yes, there is the board and its a great one, so hang around and give us your thoughts and fears and questions.

Hello Patty and welcome. The journey you are about to embark on is a very emotional, exciting and rewarding one. The time will fly by and you'll be on the loser's bench before you know it. If you are unable to make it to support groups in your area then you have a ton of support right at your fingertips with a lot of highly-intelligient, knowing individuals right here. Congratulations on your decision to gain control of your life!!! You won't regret it.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
