Calling Patients Of Dr. Alfred Trang!
I'm new to the OH Community and i'm looking for anyone who has or had Dr. Alfred Trang as a doctor...he's affiliated with Dr. Dallal's Office at Einstein Elkins Park..just wanted some feed back. My date is April 17 and i'm nervous. I can't find any information on Dr. Trang, only on Dr. Dallal and now having second thoughts.
I had my lap RNY with Dr Trang. I was turned down by the place in Langhorne because I had previous abdominal surgery for a colon problem about 15 years ago. Thy said there would be too much scar tissue. Dr Trang said that wasn't a problem, but he might have to do it open, not lap. As it turned out he was able to do it laproscopically, it just took a little longer. I haven't had any problems since surgery, so I would definitely recommend him to anyone. Although sometimes it's a long wait in the waiting room, I fit in the smaller chairs now!
Of course you're nervous, it's a big, life-changing decision you've made. Just hang in there & try to picture what your life will be like in 6 months!!
All the best to you!

Hi. I am another of Dr. Trang's patients. I first met him in September 2008 and had my RNY (lacroscopic) in early January 2009. First, I would say that Dr. Trang is a very modest surgeon -- he doesn't talk up his training and experience -- but he has great credentials and a good amount of experience due to his specialized residency training. Once I asked him why he hadn't set up a page on ObesityHelp.com and he replied that he would rather let his work speak for itself. When I was interviewing Dr. Trang to be my surgeon, I asked him why he thought Dr. Dallal selected him to be his new partner. Trang's reply was telling -- Dallal had selected him because of his superior training and technical skill. It is my understanding that in addition to your run-of-the-mill weight loss surgeries, Dallal also relies on Trang for very specialized, complicated cases. I think it is a good sign that Dallal, a very senior surgeon himself, has this type of confidence in Trang (which I believe is well deserved). From what I've read, the most important consideration in selecting a surgeon is how often they perform RNY surgery and how much experience they have with the specific type of surgery. The last time I visited with Trang, in January, he reported that he was performing multiple surgeries a week. My guess was that he was doing between four and seven surgeries a week -- this is great -- lot's of time in the operating room and lot's practice. As the old saying goes -- "practice makes [almost] perfect". Feel free to send me an email if you want to chat via phone. -roger
