HI Everyone,

I am six days post op and I am exhausted. I have been feeling great up unitl yesterday afternoon. I have no energy at all. I have been getting in around 45-50 grams of protein a day so I don't think it is that. Any suggestions?
Christine

You did have major surgery! This is normal! I didn't get my energy bac****il I started on real foods. Keep up with getting your protein, fluids, vitamins and exercise and you will feel better by the day! Hope this helps!!

First of all------congrats on surgery ........... It seems so long ago but I do remember after about 1 week being sooooo tired.... According to my doctor, she said that your body is going to need more sleep for awhile since surgery is a shock to your body.... I think I was so excited for the 1st few days and then when I got settled in and it hit me like a brick.... The protien is key but you just need to take it easy for the 1st 2 or 3 weeks .....
Best of luck -- I can't tell you how wonderful my decision was... Hope its as great for you .................

Yuppers, normal normal normal.

Rest as needed but make sure you continue to get your walking in.  Exercise will eventually lead to more energy - but there is a fine line between resting to much and over doing it to much this early out.

Happy healing!

I was totally exhausted for about 7 or 8 weeks.  Keep on drinking and work on getting in more protein and sleep when you need it.  You will eventually overcome this and feel wonderful.
Good luck,

Take naps, walk, sip, and get that protein in... but take the naps... you are healing! Relax all is good!

Hi Christine,
Do your best to make your protein goal. Do you know what Barix wants you to achieve daily? As well as your fluid goal. 64 oz of sugar-free, non-caffeinated liquid. It may be difficult but get in what you can. The fluid intake is tied to your energy level. You may not be thirsty or hungry so drinking/eating must be routine based on frequency throughout the day. Intake the liquids, sipping water every few minutes. Eat/drink your full liquids every 3 hrs or so. You're also learning a new drinking/sipping routine. Take it slow with that. Let the fluid in, let the air out. Get your multi-vitamins in daily, but also recognize that if you are tired, rest. With adjustment relief will come.

A. You're recovering from major surgery

B. Your body is starving

Totally normal. I was beat up from the feet up for 3 weeks before I could even THINK about going to work and not needing 3 naps a day. Then it was another wee****il I wasn't coming home and going to be at 7pm.

Just be kind ot yourself, nap when you can and get fluids in. Protein is important but it will take a few weeks until you can meet your protein goals.
