Relieved
Hi new friends and good morning....
This morning, I am so relieved and happy. I have been putting off telling my Mom about having the surgery. The reaction that I thought she would have was really scary for me. She and my father have been having medical issues themselves and I definitely didn't want to burden/upset her until I knew for sure that I was approved.
Well, now that I am approved, I sprung it on her. We went shopping and when we finally stopped to sit down, I told her. I think she thought when I told her I had news, that I was going to tell her that I was pregnant....
...haha
Anyhow, after I told her my reasons and that my family doctor was on board (we share the same family Dr. and Mom values the Dr.'s opinion), she was COMPLETELY on board. I thought I was going to cry with relief.
While we were talking, I basically got the feeling that she didn't want me to go down the road that she went down. She is overweight, tired and has some health issues. I'll be 40 this year and she will be 62. She wants me to be able to live a better, healthier life.
When we left the mall, she told me that she loved me. I am so blessed.
Thanks for listening.

I am so glad you have her support. Alot of times, family and friends don't understand why you are making the decision and aren't always very supportive. I know you can breathe a sigh of relief that she is on your side. It will only make your journey much easier.
It's great she sees this as an opportunity for you to live your life to the fullest. You have a great journey ahead of you.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
That's wonderful, Lisa!! My parents weren't thrilled with my decision - although seeing my "transformation" and also the resolve of my health problems, they are all on board with it.
Congrats on taking this next step!

Hi Lisa.. I am so happy for you to be able to talk to your mom and get her support. Unfortunately, my mom passed away before I could take this step in my life. But, my father has been very supportive... concerned and skeptical, but still very supportive. You need to have those close to you to be there for you as much as you can.
So now you have your blood relatives and your new family here on OH for support. This group has been a true life line for me. I don't have a lot of family and only have a few friends who have had the surgery who truly understand what we go through. So, the PA OH friends that I have made have been a blessing. I have learned so much and gained so much positive energy..
Keep checking in with us all throughout the process. We are here for you.
Where are you from, by the way?

I can very much relate to your post. One of the reasons I had my surgery was because my mom lived a life of obesity. She is now 82, can barely walk and I've watched her suffer from her obesity my entire life. I did not want to go that route. She has been my greatest support and could not be prouder with what I have done to make myself healthier.
Good luck and keep coming here to post.

You're right in the area with "most" of us! Seems like a majority of the board is in Eastern PA - although the western 1/2 of the state has been showing more of themselves lately! lol
