Shilpa Moment yesterday

So, as many of you know Shilpa the exercising queen doesn't feel right if she doesn't burn like 1200 calories a day.  She gets on the elliptical and turns into a workout monster.

So, yesterday, I was ||<- this close to skipping my workout altogether. I didn't feel well and I had a long drive home, basically I just didn't want to.  I did it anyway. I got on the elliptical that is conveniently located right at the end of my bed and programmed it for a measly 1/2 hour on low tension.

Something took over me after about 15 minutes though. I cranked up the juice  and started peddling faster.  Once I got to the end of my 30 minutes, I saw that I had only burned about 300 calories.  I just couldn't get off... I re-programmed  it and stayed on for another 20 minutes of high level butt kicking elliptical riding so I could burn a good 500 calories.  Now I know it's not 1200 or anything, but I felt really really good especially since I was really truly going to blow it off altogether.

YEA ME!

Just thought I would share.

Angela,
Good for you on pushing yourself to burn more calories but not exercising is not an option. I am so proud of you and thanks for embarrassing me this way

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

What's the NEAT factor?

I am learning about it from the book Move a Little Lose a lot

We can increase calorie burn by moving more thoughout the day
standing for an hr burns 3 times as many calories as sitting
i have been standing at my desk when I can or pacing the halls at work reading when I am on break
Interesting read
What you need, according to this doctor’s orders, is to get moving, or nonexercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT). NEAT is as simple as standing, turning, and bending. Research proves that daily NEAT activity burns more calories than a half hour running on the treadmill. Just by the very act of standing and moving, you can boost your metabolism, lower your blood pressure, and increase your mental clarity. It’s about using your body as it was meant to be used. Move a Little, Lose a Lot gives you literal step-by-step instructions for small changes that equal radical results:

OH, that's "neat" ( ok bad joke) but seriously, that sounds interesting. Maybe i'll pick it up.  How do you stand at your desk though, it seems like the computer would be too far away.

If I am on the phone I am standing. If i am between things or on breaks I am pacing the floors.
Constantly looking for opportunities to move a little
