Things I CAN'T do since surgery and are STILL wows

So I discovered this journey isn't all about what we CAN do since surgery (exercise, do activities, feel comfortable in our own skins) but can also be reversed....

For example I got up earlier than Brian yesterday and started the painting in the kitchen.  The fridge needed to be moved, no big deal.  Granted, I haven't moved a fridge in a few years - but it was always a matter of getting a little grip on it, giving it a little "pull" and whoomp there it is.

APPARANTLY what it REALL used to be was getting a grip on it and leaning back using 110 pounds of my body weight to move it.  Here I go...I get a grip...I pull...and the fridge stares back at me saying "I'm sorry - were you trying to do something?"  Hmmmm...weird....so I do it again...same result.  This went on for QUITE some time and then repeated itself with the oven/range.  Apparantly it wasn't sheer brute I had before...but sheer weight.

Also we worked our TAILS off on Friday.  We did lots of running errands...painting...climbing up and down ladders...lifting things...rearranging things....and generally speakng that would have been a GREAT start to the weekend - because that means I would be so sore and soooo tired I would *not* be able to do something and I would have the excuse of sleeping for 12 hours because I worked sooo hard.

I no longer have the capability to do that.  I literally cannot sleep for 12 hours.  I have way to much energy.  Nor can I just sit around all day.  I am always doing something...puttsing here and there...cooking...playing with the cats.  I seriously do not have the ability to be lazy.

Weird...I can't do things...and I'm thrilled to not have those "abilities" anymore.

And yes, eventually I DID get the appliances moved by myself....I'll be darned if I was gonna let them get the best of me and my lack of fluff!

Pam,

Great feeling isn't it?  One of the best things for me is the energy, it just feels great to be alive!  Where everything is not a major OMG I did this now I am wore out.  I am so looking forward to the warmer weather and getting out and doing things that before was  major undertaking.

Happy Day!

LOL, I know what you mean. I am always trying to rearrange the living room, etc. And dammit, I get it done but it takes me forever to get things moved around!

But that's OK, it takes me much less time to do other things in my life and I feel better so it all evens out.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Oh I know! When I painted my living room on New Year's Day, '08, my stepdad was over helping and he looked at my wall unit ( MUST weigh a ton....on wheels, he could not budge it)...and he said "HOW did you move that???) I had been about 375 at the time, and all I had to do was get my bearings and bump it with my ass, it moved....LOL. I am happy to say I can't do that anymore. And I feel like a total babe in my size 8 black pants from J Jill.

The nerve of those damn appliances mocking you like that! Good for you for not letting them get the best of you - hopefully your back won't be paying the price tomorrow!!

I think one of the things that I still cope with is the fact that I think I can't do something or won't fit thru something because I still feel like the old fluffy Kathy, not the new trimmer model I've become. Not sure when that all kicks in but hopefully it will some day. Don't get me wrong - some days I really do know I'm not fluffy Kathy anymore, but there are stlll times.

Anyway, good for YOU for feeling so wonderful and accomplishing so much! I have some wainscotting in my mudroom that needs painting - are you available???
