Now, I'm only 6 months out......but I've wondered when I was going to learn too!!!  I eat too fast and don't chew everything real good (so I fill up much faster)!!!  Bread fills me up fast!  But I know that in 5-10 yrs....I'll probably be doing the same thing!!  My mom is almost 4 1/2 yrs post op RNY.....she still eats too fast (but it doesn't effect here soo much) and too much!  She still eats stuff that she has had problems with in the past......ie.. rice!!  Our minds are funny things!!

When you find a solution, please share it with us!!!

There are never any problems, only solutions.  quoted by a dear and special friend!!!

My stats:
Starting weight 234 lbs    Height 5 ft 6 in
Goal in 7 months (127 lbs)
Currently: 120-123 lbs
Tops Small   Bottoms size 2!!!!

I'm only about 3 months out and I must admit I have learned one thing clearly to make my vitamins and calcium. I found a holder on drug store.com that holds my 5 required pills for each day for a full week. Plus it is small enough that it fits in my bag, so I carry it will me all the time.

Now, as for the other items mentioned (eating too fast, getting enough protein, etc) those things are still a work in progress.

Eating too fast is still my biggest issue - my husband is a fast eater - not sure why I think I need to keep up with him but I find myself doing it and paying for it. Plus then I eat too much. My eyes are still bigger than my stomach (literally, I think!). I'm pretty good with not drinking at meals - once in a great while I will but most of the time I do wait. Bread and rice are both items I steer clear of  - had a horrible dumping episode on rice one night - thought I was having a heart attack and it lasted for hours.

I think this will always be a learning process for us since we spent most of our lives eating and doing whatever we wanted (and we paid a dear price for that...). But lifelong habits are very hard to break - the best we can hope for is that we THINK before we eat and remember what we've done and why.

You're obviously not alone in this...

Shilpa,
You know what to do - and I know that you can do it..
Maybe you need to try going back to basics and write out a meal plan to follow
that will work with your new job. You seem to be struggling since you started with
them. So I think that you were doing okay before, but need to devise a plan that
works in your new positiion. After you get in to your new plan - it will become
second nature for you again.
Hang in there.

I still do it all the time.  Oddly enough more at home than I do work - but then again - I bring stuff like yogurt and cheesesticks to work specifically so I don't have to worry about not chewing properly.  The worst that happens with that stuff is that I eat it to fast and am nauscious for about 1/2 hour or so until it wiggles its way out of the pouch.

16 mos and yup, still doing it here!

Yep, me too.  As a matter of fact, I could have written that exact post (except for the rice thing, I don't seem to have a problem with that).  I wish I had some good advice.  We all know what we're supposed to do.  The hard part is training ourselves to do it.  Thankfully, the one thing I am religious about is my vitamins.  I never miss a dose, and I never will.  Too many bad things can happen if we fall off that wagon.  So be sure if nothing else, you follow your vitamin regimen every single day.

Shilpa, I'm a newbie but do all the the no-nos you speak of. I literally barfed EVERY DAY for the first 5 months of solid food. I have been lucky and have not thrown up in about 2 weeks now. I guess maybe I have learned, but I'm a really slow learner.

guilty! 2+ years out... The only one that I am usually OK with it drinking with meals - I don't put a drink down with my dinner, when I am done eating after a while I will get up and get one.

I have had rice several times making me wish I was dead. Pain OMG. Bread I do OK with but still avoid it like the plague! I still think that I can go until 2 or 3 before having lunch while running around like a mad woman - WRONG - or that I can eat lunch in 5 or 10 minutes - WRONG AGAIN!

I am sure that this will sink in eventually!!!

Just know... you aren't alone!

I am guilty as well of this matter a fact ..I had what I told Dennis was Full BLown Foamies yesterday ..IT was pretty bad. Why because I ate like someone was gonna take my food away.

I can tolerate rice when I attempt it...Not sure that is a good thing but I do brown whole grain ..
