Have you read any books on being successful long-term after WLS?

Which would you recommend and why?

Thanks.

I enjoyed reading Before and After by Susan Maria Leach. She's 6-7 years out from surgery and if has her story, lots of recipes and ways she was able to keep her weight off. She also has a website BariatricEating.com. I've enjoyed reading the info and getting more recipes from her. I also purchased the WLS for Dummies book. It also had some ideas in it. I bought both of these at Borders. Hope it helps.

Thanks, Susie.  What section of Borders were they in?  I was in a big Barnes & Noble today and couldn't find anything on the topic.

Winning After Losing by Stacey Halprin. Lots of good insights from a woman who was....really really heavy (over 400, maybe close to 600, I forget) and had RNY, got down into the 190's and has kept it off for years now.

I was looking at that one on Amazon, Cheryl.  I was hoping someone would comment on it :-)

Pre op I read "The Real Skinny on Weight Loss Surgery"  I don't remember how much was focused on maintaining post op - but I do know the women are successful in their journies, the book was a FABULOUS read, and they were hysterical.

If you find any other good ones, let us know!

I'll look for that one, Pam.  I'm needing the inspiration.

I either got mine from Barnes and Nobles.com or Amazon.com  I don't remember which one.  I do remember the B&N not having it physically in stock at my store but online it wasn't an issue.

Lisa,
I think I found it in the health or diet section of Borders. They had to order the Before and After book for me though, but it didn't even take a week to get it. It's also a good read. I think I might check out some of these other titles also. Thanks for asking the question.

Hi Lisa!

This isn't a WLS book, but one book I can definitely recommend to you is a book that Nicole Lewis recommended to me:  The Beck Diet Solution, by Judith Beck.  Judith Beck is a psychologist and her father Aaron Beck is the founder of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  The book is not a diet itself -- it simply allows you to work with any eating plan and teaches you how to change the way you think about food and exercise and even slip-ups.  The majority of the book is meant to be read a little each day, over the course of 6 weeks, and I really found it very helpful.  In fact, I just recently started to re-read it again, so if you felt it was something you wanted to buy and read, we could definitely read it together and discuss!

On a different note, how are you feeling this week?

Thinking of you,
Lisa :)
