Anyone know anything about this?

HEre is what I found but my question is... does it make us dump?

Product Description
Maltitol is an all natural Sugar Free Sweetener that makes a perfect replacement for Sugar for Diabetics or Low Carb Dieters. The body absorbs Maltitol more slowly than sugar and as a result does not cause fluctuations in blood glucose levels like Sugar does. Maltitol contains zero net carbohydrates which makes it a good substitute for baking a low carb diet. It is 90% as sweet as sugar which is not a noticeable difference to taste and unlike other Sugar substitutes Maltitol does not leave an aftertaste in the mouth. It can be used to bake cakes, candy, cookies and more without the need to modify your recipes. We have been using Maltitol in our sugar free chocolates at A Bountiful Harvest for over 2 years now and the response has been very positive, in fact most customers refuse to believe our chocolates and cakes are sugar free. Many of our customers who are following Atkins or South Beach diets have reported great success with weight loss by replacing their sugar with Maltitol.

Never heard of it. If you decide to try it out fill us in. Lord knows splenda isn't safe anymore! LOL

But seriously, I am always interested to try a new sweetener.....

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Malitol is what is in allyour SF candies that make up sugar alcohols. It will not make us dump but anyone tha uses it in excess will get gasey and it  has a laxative effect.
check out your SF chocolate chips, there is malitol in that.
Sometimes I can tolerate it and sometimes I can't it makes me gasey and can give you a good colon cleansing

Too much gives me diarreah and from what I hear from others it's a pretty common reaction from WLS patients as well as "normal" humans.

I just made a sugar free chocolate peanut butter cheesecake recipe that called for the sf chocolate chips. They contain malitol. My nut said it's fine for people that had WLS but depending on how sensitive you are, it does have a laxative effect ( and will make you quite gassy). One serving usually doesn't do anything to me, but but everyone is different.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Here ya go gang,  here's an explanation of the various sugar alcohols.   Some are better for baking than others because of their ability to "rise", some better in candies because of their hardening/thickening properties.   When I was first out of surgery and researching more, I defined my limit to 9gm I think it was before the gassy sounds started coming; only went beyond when I was constipated and needed to.   That was no more than 3 pieces of Ashers chocolate BTW.   ***You know you are a choco-holic when you write to Ashers and have them send you a printout of their entire line of SF chocolates nutritionally broken down and analyze grams and how many of a particular kind you can have before you have to hit the john.....
