So I went to my appointment at OAA, and saw the dr...an absolutely wonderful woman....   she bended my knee way further than I think it was supposed to go...   and I could tell it wasn't good.  she ordered some x-rays, and they came back, and we looked over them together in the office.  looks like I have arthritis in my joint, and behind my knee cap....  and more than likely little to no cartlidge in there....  she ordered an mri that i have to have done, but she told me basically my options right now are cortisone shots for now, and ultimately have surgery.   and these results were better than what she thought it was going to be...    good i guess???

yay for having been 400 lbs!

I won't be having any kind of surgery this year that's for sure, we have a wedding to pay for!

thanks everyone for thinking of me today <3

Hey...I was just going to text you to see how it went.  Won't insurance cover the cost of surgery?  I used cortisone in my heels and it worked wonders, and  I know knees and heels arent the same, but it should give you some relief for awhile at least.

Glad that things went OK - arthritis is an OK answer - at least it is easily treatable!

Hey Mary,
Just knowing makes you feel better.

Cortisone shots aren't to fun - but will hopefully help your pain.  What kind of surgery are they talking?  Knee replacement?  I know there is an injection of stuff they can do in some cases - one of my nurses at the other hospital had it done to delay surgery.  I'll find out what it was.  It might be an option for you.

Maybe not Yay for being 400 plbs but yay for NOT being 400 pounds any more because I can tell you that delaying surgery may not be as much of an option ifl that were the case - although that can be a double edged sword as some surgeons won't do knee replacement or knee surgery until the person loses weight.

I'll be keeping you guys in my thoughts.  And if and when you do have surgery - you've got a private nurse 30 mins away.....

I`m surprised they didn`t offer you the chicken injections. People have bee getting good results with them. I can`t remember the official name of them this early. My knees are destroyed from sports. ACL repairs and now the cartilage is worn and just about gone. Losing that weight was a start and strengthening the leg muscles will help a bit.
The problem with steroids is now after I had way more then my share they found you are limited in how many you can have before they have an adverse effect.

Hang in there it gets better.

I was diagnosed with patella fibula arthritis in both knees.  At this advanced stage it will require knee surgery when I can no longer find comfort in cortizone shots.  One thing to be aware of is that all cortizone shots are not the same.  When I had cortizone shots for my heel because of plantars facaitis, I got more pain then not having the shot.  Turns out I was allergic to the mix in the shot, same thing when I had a shot for rotator cup injury.  Thankfully my ortho identified the problem and found the right mix.  So if you take the shots be aware of the differences in mixers.  Write down the name of the one that works for you.  Its a terrible thing to deal with if you get the wrong shot and have to deal with it for months.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Glad you found out what it is so now you can treat it.  TG you are not 400 lbs anymore cause like Pam said, it would be much worse.  At least now, you are able to do the exercises that they might have you do with less effort.  Hopefully the shots will work for you for as long as you need them too, but ultimately the surgery may be the way to go.

Hey, even the doc said the results were better than she thought... so that IS a good thing.

Good luck getting through this..
