Insurance Question for State employees

Hi everyone. I'm considering having RNY done. I am a Commonwealth of PA employee. My insurance is Capital Blue Cross PPO through PEBTF. I've heard coverage for weight loss surgery was dropped, but the last manual published (2005) indicates that it's covered.

I'm just wondering if there are any other PA state employees who had this surgery and what, if any, battles they had to fight with the insurance to get it covered? I do have other insurance through my husband, which covers the surgery as long as I do a 6-month pre-op weight management program, but I would like to use mine if possible.

My father was a state employee, and he told me it was dropped within the last year or so.

Ask your HR coordinator to look into for you.
