bodily function question
Ok, I have to ask.. as you all know, I had my surgery Monday. That means, that I took a stool softener on Sunday and emptied my system. Since then, I did not move my bowels at all. I assumed it was because I have only consumed liquids since then and there was nothing to move.
Yesterday, I drank crystal light for the first time since the surgery. Well, the belly started gurgling and I went the bathroom and had a hell of a runny b.m. Was that just "time" for my b.m. or do you think it was a reaction to the crystal light?
Opinions?

I agree. I was probably a combination of both. I wouldn't assume that crystal light will always cause this. you are healing and there are so many changes going on, it takes some time. Just be aware of these things when you go back to work or have to go away....LOL.
Another suggestion, NEVER try something new away from home. You never know how it may affect you. LOL

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
I would think that it is probably what is in your system, be it mostly liquids, making it's way out. I doubt it was the crystal lite - although it certainly can be. You may want to dilute it a little bit more than usual the next time you have it. But I didn't start having regular BMs until a good few weeks into the stages.
Good luck!

Thx all for your answers. I figured it was just time and since all I have been consuming is liquids, then liquids is what I get rid of. It happened again today and I did not have any crystal lite, so I'm sure it was just a timing issue.
I did only use 1/2 the packet in my bottle thinking the whole thing would probably be too sweet so I will definitely keep doing that.
Jojo.. great advice. I will NEVER try anything new away from home. I CAN do it while working, though, but only because I work from home!! AHHHHHH THE JOY!!
thanks again all!

Hi Lisa I had the same experience you did only I was in Boscov's at Oxford Valley Mall and oh boy! I don't think the crystal light had anything to do with it. Just try things at home first its a safe bet to do that. Glad you were feeling much better when I saw you at Liz's yesterday. You looked great. I think it was time for your b.m. and right now you are on liquids.
Some other digestive advice for a heads up. I wish I had kept a notebook with me in the beginning, because it would have been so helpful in identifying the foods I reacted to. I have been blessed with few severe food reactions, but I learned I cannot handle regular orange juice at all. It was my first dumping experience. I tried it again a few weeks after my initial episode, and still had a bad reaction.
Ask your doc ahead of time if you can take GasX when necessary. Then, keep track of the foods that give you gas. I have had much more gas since my WLS, which can catch you off guard, and be awkward if not prepared. It can also be terribly uncomfortable in the beginning. I keep GasX, or the store equivalent, in my purse for emergencies. I react to broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, peppers, basically all the fun veggies, in addition to bean, in any way, shape or form.
Also, don't be alarmed by your bowel movements in the beginning. Remember that your insides have been totally rearranged, and are not used to anything that is happening to them. That is why I so appreciated the liquid phases, and was not at all troubled by them. I felt like a newborn whose body needed to learn all over again.
Sorry to lecture. Just thought I would share something that came to mind.
Huggles,
Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

Not a lecture Trish..just information that is useful and needed. I do have a notebook and have documented the bm's and their consistency, just in case surgeono asks when and how, etc. I plan to use it to document my weight, measuremens, foods, feelings, etc. Hopefully I can keep up with it and be consistent.
I may even print pics and put them in as I progress.
