Ok, so I am trying to do the protein shake thing.  Someone, please help...this stuff is so NASTY!!!  I have the vanilla and I made a choc type something or other this morning but I also have a lot of unflavored and really don't know what to do with this stuff...I can't just mix it in every day stuff like I originally thought because it is so thick.  Any suggestions? Help me, I am desperate!!!

HI, I am new to this, I am in the beginning stages of getting approved by the insurance...but I am doing my research so will know what lies ahead.   I keep reading about protein shakes.  Can you tell me why the protein shakes?
Thanks

Debbie - as a post op protein is our #1 goal. Many surgeons require you to be on "full liquids" from anywhere up to 6 weeks post-op. Also, many surgeons require you to do a pre-op liquid diet to shrink the liver - all this of course varies surgeon to surgeon.

Hope this helps

You can add just a bit to other things - or add frozen fruit into it - also try mixing it with milk or soy milk instead of water. My favorite is chocolate protein powder, soy milk and frozen bananas.

You can also do soy milk, frozen berries, and vanilla soy milk, you can also add in some greek yogurt for an extra protein punch.

Try a different protein powder - they all taste different you will hopefully find one you like. You can go to GNC - if you don't like it and save your receipt I believe that tehy will exchange it.

Hope this helps!

It's hard to help with not knowing what kind you have. they all taste different. and they all mix different. Some say to mix with water, others tell you to mix with milk, juice, etc. Good luck. I am 4 years post op and just now finally found a protein I really like. It's alot of trying different things. And your tastes change so much.

Good luck.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I like the premade myoplex lite shakes.  They come in chocolate and vanilla.  You can find those at walmart and giant eagle.

I found that blending it with as much ice as possible makes it go down better.  I  use soy milk or skim milk, not sure what you are allowed.  good luck  I am having my surgery next tuesday so I know about the WHEY shakes ...they can get chalky...hang in there!

Can you please tell us what protein powders you are using... and the recipes that you are following... I think that will help us help you more...

Thanks...

Don't try to use an entire scoop;  I like to use a tablespoon or so to add to soups, etc.  That amount ups the protein content by about 10 to 12 grams, especially if it is a veggie soup.

Good luck!

I have two protein shake recipes that I follow regularly that are easy on the taste buds.  I use AnyWhey protein powder, and add it to a Dannon Lite and Fit yogurt, skim mil**** and fruit in the blender.  The AnyWhey is virtually flavorless.

The AnyWhey is about 17 grams of protein per scoop.  It can be added to other things, but I just use it to make these two protein shakes.

The other thing I add it to is Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast and skim milk.
