OT-Rosetta Stone (xpost)

Has anyone on here used Rosetta Stone??  I would love to learn Spanish.   I looked it up and it is like $500!!!  I'm not sure it is worth the money!!

I have a boat load (pun intended) of "South of the Border" guys come into my work on Fridays (payday).  They pretend to not speak a lick of English, they speak Spanish to one another.  And I have NO IDEA what they are saying.  Of course, guilty conscience, I think its about me!!  Then last week, one of the guys came in....he hasn't been in for like 8 months!  He asks me if I speak Spanish.  I said a teeny, tiny bit (and hold up my fingers showing a tiny bit).  He turns to me and says something in Spanish!!!  I think it was a compliment, I'm pretty sure it was a compliment....but I don't know!!  He was in again today!  2 weeks in a row!  The guy in front of him that I waited on, kept looking up and down me!  Then he did the same thing when I waited on him!  To top it all off....he lagged back in line so that he got me!!  Talk about feeling awkward!!!  I was a lot embarrassed!!!  I've NEVER had guys look at me like that before!!!!  I mean NEVER!!!!!  Anyway....I really want to get Rosetta Stone, just don't know if its worth the money!

ok this is going to sound bad... but I grew up in the southwest... and they all could speak english... up here for some reason they are lazy or pretend not to speak it... don't bend over backwards to learn it if they aren't going to learn the language of this country... which is english...

btw- I had neighbors that were straight over the board and in about 6m they learned english... while it wasn't great... they were trying... and to me that is the important thing...

But, Roesetta Stone is a great program... it does work... but don't give in to people that are being lazy...

OH Shannon.....I know they understand at least SOME English!!!  You short them money in their Paycheck......you know they learn how to say "not enough money" PDQ!!!!  Most of them I believe it is "pretend"!  A bunch at least try to communicate!  I've learned a couple of things, like denominations of the money, do you have an account...stuff like that.  But when they are standing at my window talking to the other guy, I get self conscience!  I think they are talking about me!!  Maybe I have "me, its all about me" syndrome, but I'd just love to know what they are saying!!!  The one guy I remembered that he had an account.  I remembered which one he was because he was a "little guy".  Well the next week, a couple of the guys started picking on him (jokingly)!  I say hey, don't pick on him.  We call you the "big guy"!!  At first he was shocked that I knew what they were talking about....then for a couple of weeks they were leery to say some stuff around me (thinking I could understand them)!!  The "big guy" speaks english, not great...but good enough!  I want to get Rosetta Stone for me to learn Spanish...not for them to learn English!!  Plus one of our Landscaping companies gets a bunch of guys from Mexico (possibly not coming this year, very upsetting), I would love to communicate with them.  They have learned English over the few years they have been coming here.  Each year they learn more, so they are trying!!

I've always wanted to learn Spanish...I took it in High School, thought it would be easy!  I lasted 3 days!  But now I'm more motivated!

Thank you!  I seem to be hearing good things about it!  I think I'mg going to get it, just don't know if I want to ebay it or ask for it for my birthday or Christmas! :)
