Hello all, ins question....for my fellow PA'ers

I'm scheduled for my surgery march 16th......first choice is VSG, and my 2nd choice is RnY.  I have Capital Blue Cross for insurance.

Anyone else have the VSG approved with this insurance?  They gave me the "ok" over the phone twice, but as my surgeon informed me, when the ins company actually gets the paperwork, that's when answers seem to change.  :-(

Any and all input will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hello Kris~

I had a VSG in May, 2008, but I have Aetna and they covered it. Only thing I can recommed is that you post your question over on the VSG board, everyone over there is very helpful.

Good Luck!

Victoria,

Thank you for the response!  I've been posting on the VSG board (it's kinda my home....that is unless the ins won't cover me for it!!) I'd still go back and see what everyones up to over there. They're all great people. As is the whole site for that matter.

I was just hoping someone in the same state could give me a ray of hope :0)

I guess it will just be a nail biter up until I get the word...hehe

Thank you again!

Hi Kris,

Whether your surgery is going to be covered or not is all going to depend on the guidelines within your specific policy. All insurance benefits are determined on a policy by policy basis even within the same company. You can have 10 people who are all covered under Capital Blue Cross and you're going to see 10 completely different policies with completely different benefits and/or exclusions. There is no such thing as one size fits all when it comes to insurance benefits so unfortunately you can't use someone else's experience with Capital as a guideline as to what you can expect to be covered or denied.

Thank you for the heads up. I know it varied by state....but I didn't give it much thought of any other factors effecting it.

Thank you!! :0)  ((sometimes I just need someone to open my eyes a bit more))
