Vitamins

Hi
I just saw my surgeon yesterday for my 30 day post surgery checkup that was actually 6 weeks. He told me that I can take small pills.
Is there any reason I can't take vitamin pills? Is there any other reason except for size to use chewables?
I came out of surgery hating chocolate ( I was a chocoholic) and hating anything sweet.
Every chewable is sweet. I hate them.
Any one else have Dr. Beetle in Reading PA?

Because of absorption maybe. Thats why they say sublingual or chewable.

rule is if it is bigger then a plain M&M don't swallow it as the stoma - opening from your pouch to the intestine - is only about that big - anything larger can get stuck *painful!*

Hope this helps!

Hmmm, this is a first.  I've not heard of anyone say their doctor told them to take chewables only.  In time, you may be able to tolerate sweet again.  I did. I wish I hadn't sometimes lol.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

The team I used says chewable, sunlingual or gel caps for 2 reasons, One is the stoma and size and the other is absorption because of the bypass.
My doctor has specific guidelines as to what is necessary and how to split them up and take at different times to avoid conflicts.

Very interesting indeed.  By the way, when you get to the point of tolerating sweet, I take a great chewable.

Now I'm confused!  Dr. P. told me I could swallow large pills, I've never had a problem swallowing centrum, repliva (large iron pills) etc.  I never heard the chewable vitamins are better absorbed, is this true??

Just looking at it from a mechanical standpoint. If the pill gets past the stoma and into the absorption phase of the intestine the more broke down it is the more that shortened absorption section can assimilate. Part of the RNY procedure is malabsorption .
That`s just the way I see it from a layman's point of view.
