Slow down! Hang up! Just drive!!!!!
I am so sorry to hear that. Please give his family our prayers. I hate watching some of these people just chatting away on the phone . I would love to find a window sign that says " talk or drive ! Do one not both !
"

I pass on my condolensces to you, the company, and the man's family. Losing someone in such a sensless way just adds to the tragedy.
And to add to your "preaching" if anyone is a fan of mythbusters...they actually tested this...on a road test. They compared it to drunk driving. First they took a road test with certain rules. Then they took the same test while on the cell phone. Then, they drank alcohol (taking breathalizer tests while they were drinking so that they were .07 or under because .08 is legally intoxicated and obviously they could not put them even on a driving course intoxicated) And for those of you who are wondering....some of the results of driving while talking came back WORSE than driving while intoxicated. Ok ok ok so the critics say they weren't intoxicated and legally you are correct but they were damn close and at least "buzzed" So many of us would never even THINK of diriving when buzzed, but have no quams talking while driving. I come from a state with a cell phone law, although blue tooth is of course allowed....and I got so used to NOT talking on the phone while driving (I don't like blue tooth) that the other day my phone rang and I answered it and actually told the person about 45 secs into it "I can't do this I'm driving and it's just not safe" and hung up the phone. And if the phone call is that freaking important for goodness sake - just pull over into a shopping center or something.
Ok....I'll stop my preaching now.

Patrick my condolences for the loss of your friend and co-worker and his friends and family is always worst when a death is causes by ignorant people, I for one whenever slow down at schools, the people working on the roads and even wave to them to show I see them and appreciate the job that they are doing, It drives me nuts to see someone texting and I actually yell at them to hang the f**k up and pay attention! Sorry to say but its usually the younger generation that does this. Thanks for bringing that to everyone's attention and sorry for the loss. Its sad that it takes something of that caliber to make us realize that. And you are not sounding preachy just sharing what happened. Sorry Patrick.
Patrick, I am quite a few days behind in posts and I am just reading yours now. I am terribly sorry about what happened to Paul Deans -- I will definitely keep him, his family and you in my thoughts and in my prayers. I do not currently have a car -- the last time I did, I lived in NY and there was a no cell phone while driving law there -- but I'm glad you are speaking up about this. It really is so dangerous and something that is so easily avoidable.
Thinking of you,
Lisa
