I am so sorry to hear about your baby being sick. I have three four-legged kids myself, two of which we have rescued. I couldn't imagine how sick I would be if something happened to one of them. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there and don't be afraid to reach out for comfort and support. Let us know how things are going please.

Sending prayers and thoughts your way. Take a quiet moment and meditate on whether the extraordinary measures are for you or Dillinger. Surgery for a 12 year old is a lot to ask.

From a Grateful Dog
You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.
But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.
So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic that will
Once more make me whole.
The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.
That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years...
My partner till the end.
Please, understand just what this gift
You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.
You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it, too.
So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To grant me this appeal.
Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.
And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay.
I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever-faithful friend,

... a young dog once again.

Laureen...Many many many prayers going out to you and Dillinger today.  I know where you are coming from wanting to do whatever you possibly can for your dog...for many of us, pets are our children.

Loreen,
Thoughts and prayers are with you and Dillinger during this very difficult day today. I lost my Casey in Oct. She was a rescue/stray from the SPCA and we had her from about 6mo old until she was 15. She was the sweetest thing ever! I hope that the doctors find and fix his problem and he will be hogging the bed in no time!

Laureen, you and Dillinger have my thoughts, my prayers and my compassion.  I have 3 dogs and know exactly what you feel along with all of us on the board. You had some good years with him and given a choice you would turn back the clock.  Like I said to my vet when I lost my Silky (springer spaniel) at 16 I said to him as my friend forget you are my vet and give me time.  His response was Linda if I could I would.  I hope all goes well.  Both of your lives were a better place for each other.
