Does anyone know of a doctor

Hi All,
I am in the pre approval phase of getting RNY (fingers crosses)  My insurance is wanting a psych eval and an MMPI done on me.  The doctor that I have found wants to charge me 300.00 for this.  She stated that this is not a medical need.  Does anyone know of any doctors in the Monroe or Northampton county areas that do these testings under insurance?  Or know of a doctor that will charge less than 300.00?

I don't know of any doctors per say as I had my psych eval when I was still living in jersey.  However, contact your insurance company (most you can look up providers on websites) and get names and phone numbers from them and start calling around.  The other idea would be to ask your surgeon if their patients use any people in particular that they know of and see if they would take you.

Good luck on this journey!  The insurance stuff can be a pain to deal with - but it is all worth it in the end!

I don't know how far you want to travel, but I know of one in Bethlehem that I went to for my eval, and he uses insurance and does these especially for RNY candidates.  His name is Dr. William Lee, and I was very comfortable with him.  Let me know if you want any info on him.  Good luck!

I was charged 300 for my psych eval but that is because my insurance is slow to pay them the money so once they are paid the money I got my 300 back...

I also saw Dr. Lee and he just charges whatever the insurance copay is.  I just looked up MMPI, because I didn't know what it was, and Dr. Lee gave me a simple questionnaire, but I don't think it was that one.  They may accept what Dr. Lee does since he has dealt with many bariatric patients.  What insurance do you have?

I have First Priority which is BC/BS of Northeast Pa through the school district. My doctor worked flawlessly with them and my total out of pocket including office visits was about $105 and only because my deductible for the psych evaluation was $75.
