I'm in the 3rd month of the 6 month pre surgery program at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. It's a fantastic program I'm learning so much. I'm getting excited as I struggle to change my eating habits and try to find out why I eat. I want to do this right. I don't want to regain my weight after a several years. I find it very hard to exercise due to pain. I only lost 3 lbs so far. I need to loose 24 more lbs. in 3 months before the Dr. writes letter to insurance for approval. I may need to start liquid diet after next Dr. visit on 3/3 if I'm not loosing as I should be. I'm also scared of complications from surgery.
Anybody on here going/went through bariatric program at Geisinger?

There are several Geisinger patients on here, all have had great things to say!

WElcome to the program. Have you tried an aqua class? That might be easier on your joints, less pain.

I had to loose weight quickly prior to surgery and did slimfast for breakfast and lunch and a protein and veggie for dinner - that might help you out.

Best of luck!

Welcome...I had my open RNY/gall bladder removal surgery on 12/1/008 with Dr. Strodel.  He was fantastic as was his staff. I had no complications and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Try and come to the support group meetings.  I find it good to share stories and ask questions.

I didn't quite make the 10% weight loss but was still able to have surgery without being delayed or canceled. I started the liquid diet 2 wks before surgery and lost 19lbs!!

Feel free to contact me anytime!

Thanks everyone! I'm gonna try to make it to support group tomorrow (Mon) but today I'm sick with fever and feel like crap. So hopefully tomorrow I'll feel up to it.

Thanks again, Cathy

OK SO I was going to tell you about the support group that I do once a month - it is for pre-ops and post-ops and we combine a cooking class with a support group - but then I checked mapquest and saw that you are at least 2-1/2 hours away. Of course you are still welcome to come! I am in Easton PA and this month the meeting is 2/28 - let me know if you are interested or I'd be happy to answer any general RNY questions you have!

I had surgery RNY on 1/7/09 at Geisinger in Danville by Dr. Petrick.  I cannot say enough good things about this hospital I have been a patient there on several occasions and they are the best!  I had the RNY and went home 3 days later no pain , no pain medication needed.  I am currently walking 3 miles every day and feeling like a million bucks!
