Vitamins etc.

I'm cautiously optimistic that my insurance approval will come within the next little while, and need to pick up some vitamins...but don't want a Costco size bottle of something I can't use after surgery.

So...care to share name brands of some chewable multivitamins, calcium, and B's that work well after surgery? Are there good brands available at "regular" stores or is there a source that is better for WLS patients?

Also - while we're at it -  I"m curious what your personal preferences are for protein shakes.

Lynn - Congrats on getting so close! You are probably OK getting a costco size of vitamins. THey might not taste the same after surgery but they are a necessary evil. I took the costco brand of a childrens chewable for my first 2 years post op - just recently did I switch. You can also get a calcium citrate that is chewable. As far as B12 get a sublingual - again brand doesn't really matter, I have 2 one is a 5000mcg and one is 2500mcg - I kind of alternate between them.

For protein shakes I LOVE chocolate - the chocolate MAX protein from GNC is very good, as are several other "store brand" protein powders - these are something that you should NOT stock up on. You will be amazed at how much your tastes change post-op. A word to the wise, you might want to get some soy milk too - I became lactose intolerant post-op. Many of the places online will let you order sample sizes of the protein powders. Right out of surgery the nectar cappuccino (warm or cold mixed with soy milk) and fuzzy navel ( I mixed it with OJ and water)that Barix sells were my favorites - now I can't even stand the smell of them.

Hope that all of this mess helps! lol

Best of luck with your impending surgery and I;ll keep my fingers crossed for an insurance approval!

Hi,

I know of a great chewable vitamine that specifically made for the weight loss surgery patient.  They tastes good too. Here is the link.

Also for protein, Unjury is very good.  I have met the creaters of this protein and they are very knowledgeable about our needs. Here is their link.

All the other supplements suggested is good also.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

I love the unjury protein as well. I have just discovered it in the last 2 weeks. My boss is having surgery tomorrow and found it. She brought it in and you would have thought we were kids in a candy store! We tries the unflavored and wow! No nasty aftertaste, can mix with almost anything. No clumps. I went online and bought some myself. In 4 years of trying tons of protein, it's the first time I think I will actually finish the container and buy more of the same thing.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I love Celebrate vitamins.  Only kind I'll use.  No grit, no nasty after taste.  Great stuff.  AND my favorite protein in the world is Chike!  Both are available here:

Good Luck!
