Pam,
I also take the Calcium Citrate from Costco but  I think I may be taking too many.  How many do you take a day? (I've been taking 6 and that seems like a lot to me).
Thanks,
Eileen

I take four a day.  Originally my surgeon wanted me to take 1500mg of the calcium each day - and that would be the 6 tablets - but I eat a TON of dairy products in my regular diet and after reviewing everything with my nut and then the surgeon - I was well over the minimum requirement each day, so I cut it down to supplementing to 1000mg day, which is the four tablets.

Thanks Pam :)

I don't have the results of the blood work back yet so I hope I am *not* low on Calcium.  I am curious to see, though, how my labs have changed over the 3 months.  I started taking the sublingual B12 from GNC (several on here recommended that one) so I'd like to see how that number has changed.  3 months ago I was *not* below the B12 limit but was low enough in the range that Dr. Marymor recommended I start to take one.  Plus, I recall Shauna's B12 story so I didn't want to flurt with that one.

We have the same problem absorbing Vitamin D.  If you are purchasing your vitamin D separately, be sure to get "dry" D.  I purchase mine from Vitalady.  I take 10,000 units (two very small capsules) of Dry-D-3 per day.

Hope all is well.

Eileen,
Dry as opposed to a liquid version?  I think I'm good - I got a small "dry" pill for the Vitamen D.
Thanks!

Everyone pretty much answered your calcium question.  My question is, who did you see for your six month check-up?  My reason is because I see that you had Dr. Marymor for your surgery, and I know he is no longer at Barix.  I am still waiting to learn where he landed since leaving.  I am not thrilled with the idea of staying with Barix for my follow-ups, and want to go to him when I learn of his location.

Thanks,
Trish

Hey Trish,
Very perseptive of you :)

I did *not* go to Barix.  I was lucky, many many months ago, to find a Primary Care Doctor, in downtown Philadelphia, who is also a post-GBP RnY patient!!!  I think she's around 5 years out and, as an aside, is presently pregnant to boot.  I like her a lot.

I wanted a PCP where I was *not* the guinea pig, if you know what I mean, to their GBP RnY education/training.

I'll most likely not see Barix till my 1 yr (end of July).

Hi GD,

I take the brand SOLARAY Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D-3.  The others have already told you about Calcium Carbonate vs. Calcium Citrate and just to add to that, I believe it is most effective to take Calcium Citrate specifically with Vitamin D-3 (as opposed to other forms of the D vitamin).  I take 4 capsules daily and I have had no problems swallowing them -- they are not huge and have no taste.

Hope this helped,
Lisa :)

You are very welcome, GD!!  Yes, gotta love wikipedia ;)

Hehehe, yes, I am still in Boston...I visited some family in Florida during the end of December, but it was only a visit -- did not move there ;)  I did however, move from my apartment in Boston into my boyfriend Adam's place in Somerville, MA (about 5 minutes outside of Boston) just a few weeks ago.

Hope you're doing well,
Lisa :)
