Who taught this man how to diet???

Conversation between me and my hubby at the end of his first week on Weigh****chers:

He: I have extra splurge points left.  Today will be my splurge day.

I: But...you're getting weighed tomorrow...

He: I know. (confused stare)

I: Wouldn't tomorrow...after the weigh-in...be splurge time?

He: It doesn't really matter.  It all evens out in the end.

I:  (well, nothing, really, I'm speechless, but wondering...Where did this man learn to diet???)

Answer is: He didn't.  He was a tall, skinny kid and a runner till he got sick some years back.  This is his very first attempt to lose weight.

I, on the other hand, started dieting as a pre-schooler.  I know every crazy trick in the book.  Hell, I'm a co-author of that book!

He asked me to stop in there with him this morning, so he could show me everything and stay till the meeting started.  Get this: the weigh-in person had to Tell Him to empty his pockets of all his heavy items!

Has anyone ever heard of anything so absurdly...SANE!?!?

I mean, really, Who taught this man how to diet???

Lisa

He`s 100% right. If a person is looking to stay healthy and transform their body then you are just looking for health changes, body changes and if you feel like looking you should see a downward trend on the scale over a sustained period.
You used the word "trick". Tricks won`t make you successful or sustainable. You will see DH do great because he has the right attitude.
To get a consistent weight you should take off shoes, empty pockets and wear similar clothes. That`s not cheating, it`s understanding you want to be weighed not your keys, wallet cell phone, etc.

Yes, how absurdly SANE is correct.  We do know all the "tricks" which aren't really tricks, but ways to cope about our misgivings and "failures" on each diet and to make ourselves feel better about what we have or have not done.

Good for hubby, by the way, for sticking with it!

Yes, I tell him frequently how proud I am of him.

Oh those old WW days - when you wore your heaviest clothing on the initial weigh-in day and then the lightest thing you owned (okay, maybe not a nightie!) on weigh-in days. That night me and my friends (or sister) would have our 'splurge' night and get whatever we wanted, then get back on track the next day - of course you saw how well that worked - NOT!

Men - my gf's husband just started South Beach with her - he wasn't extremely overweight but had put on some pounds and his BP was getting high - of course he loses 12 lbs in one week. ARGH.

Well, at least you have the right attitude about your husband!! Hope it works for him. Kathy

Thanks, Kathy!

Yes, I did the same thing the night after a weigh-in.  Ate and ate!  After all those years of doing that crap, it's still something I fight.  But I am so determined to change, that it becomes a matter of pride!

Reminds me of when I did WW and the night we went to get weighed it was considered cheat night. we got weighed and then we went out to dinner and ate our faces off. Works for me! (only kidding) I remember taking my shoes off to get weighed and emptying pockets. Remember the expression "men are wired differently. At least he is trying.
