I am having a big problem with constipation - I will spare you the details - but its aweful!!!  I never had this problem before.  Could it be the vitamins I am taking?  I started taking adult vitamins (had been taking childrens) and Calcium.  This problem started right after I started taking them.  I am taking Colace (two in the morning and two at night), prune juice every day, and Benefiber chewable sugar free (one dose a day).  Please, can anyone help?  I am almost 3 months post-op.  Thanks!                                                 Mary

YOU MAY HAVE TO TRY DUCOLAX SUPPOSITORIES TO GET IT GOING

yes, I drink all the time, I would say at least 120oz a day, usually a bit more.

If you are taking the regular colace....try the peri colace.  Take 4 at night.

If that doesn't work (which it might not...once it's hard down there, taking stuff by mouth may not help) definately use the dulcolax suppositories - Dr. P ok'd them.  I use one and it generally works within 15 minutes for me, and I've had a reallly rough time of it before.

There was ONE time it didn't work right away...for that I did:

4 peri colace at night
Dulcolax suppository
4 pericolace at night WITH a suppository

Let me tell you - it ALL finally kicked in....and my butt burned by the end of the drama!!

I would also start subbing the peri colace, two tablets, at night instead of just the regular colace for at least 2-4 days after you do have a BM and then slowly back down to the regular colace and see how you do with that.

Good luck!

Pam

PS:  I've heard the adult centrum can be constipating and have also heard that calcium can be binding as well....but I"m not certain

okay, so I am still preop, but have an opinion/question about  this.  I have noticed on the b2b posts that a lot  of people eat  a lot of  dairy/cheese.  This could be the reason that there is a lof of constipation going around, couldn't it?  I know that currently if I eat a lot of cheese that I get a little bit constipated.  Thoughts on this?

Thanks everyone.  Yes, I think it could also be that I am drinking more milk than I did earlier - I couldn't tolerate it right after surgery.  Maybe that plus the Adult Centrum and the Calcium.

I will try the pericolace, etc - thanks, Pam.

I will let you know how it works (or how it all comes out?????)
