anyone want to pouch test w/ me
I need to do a pouch test, as previously discussed. But I know I am going to misbehave.
My wife ordered a sugar free birthday cake for me (It's the 5th), so there isn't much point in starting just yet.
I think we will be going out this weekend, so I thought starting Monday would be a good day.
Anyone want in?

Steve-
I'm not sure why, at this point in your journey, you would be looking into this.
I know you had posted about dealing with some grazing issues, but I'm not sure the pouch test is going to help you with that. It's more appropriate for someone who is a longer-term post-op who is trying to get reacquaint with some of their early post-op healthier eating habits.
Have you tried having a protein shake for breakfast, and keeping a cal-free drink with you at all times? That may help you with the grazing. If I eat breakfast like eggs or cereal, I am hungry again in a few hours. If I drink a protein shake at 6:00 AM, I can literally not even think about food until 10-10:30 in the morning.
Food for thought.

I am with Norman on this and as far as there isn't much point in starting Steve you have managed to confuse me you already started when you took the brave step to do the surgery. I had my surgery 2 days after my birthday and did not even think about eating birthday cake sugar free or otherwise but I am sure you'll be ok. Happy birthday to you and many more. If you know you're gonna misbehave then its up to you not to. After all you are only hurting yourself. You are in charge of what you put in your mouth, How many times have we all heard that?
Having surgery two days after your birthday and doing the pouch test 9 mos after surgery are so un related.....that wasn't his point in my opinion....and at some point you begin to live life "normally" or as normally as "we" can without hopefully going overboard.....and sugar free bday cake is perfectly within reason as a given treat

I'm not dogpiling on Steve about the SF cake. Lord know if that were a sin, I'd be rotting in hell by now.
I don't think the 5DPT is a good idea. I tried it and lost 5 lbs in two days by dehydrating myself from constant diarhhea. Not fun. Disclaimer, it may have been the flu, it may not have been.
The only thing it did "help" with was getting me a little more back in touch with the "rules," which you don't need the test to do.
I have strong reservations about it. It's metabolically destructive. It's a micro atkins diet.
Cut the crabs - lose weight! Eat carbs again - gain it right back!

Sorry Norm...the bday cake comment wasn't directed towards you....it was directed specifically towards Linda who said she had surgery two days after her bday and wouldn't have even thought of having bday cake, even sugar free. Didn't mean for you to think I thought you were dogpiling on steve...
I agree with most of your statements....and totally agree that it basically helped me to follow the rules....and I myself, on occassion, need a "program" to help me reset the rules....my own self will is not always strong enough.
As always....your thoughts and ideas are pretty much on target with my way of thinking.....

I'm gonna give Steve a little support here for trying to get back in his game, no matter how he does it, 5dpt or protein shakes in the am. IMHO, it's not really all that different, either way you are cutting your carbs (or not getting them started til later), slaying the beast and still having the appropriate amount of protein in your day. It's obvious Steve is feeling some stress as he sees himself grazing and where it might lead to. He knows himself best. Saying "don't misbehave" is a little naive. I agree, if you don't start, you won't wander. Abstinance should be the rule too, but how many of us broke that one???? Some of us are behavioral addicts (most don't admit it, btw) and are compelled to misbehave. Some of us don't ever feel full and don't dump so the "limits" of this surgery aren't there and we have to measure and weigh and time out everything in our day that goes in our mouths which is alot of anxiety vs. eating a few bites and feeling full or getting nauseous immediately and stopping. Wow, if it were only that easy. Having a job around food is a constant temptation and an obvious negative for Steve but I don't see that he'll be changing his job anytime soon so he needs a little help controlling himself. That 9mo. mark can really be a red flag for some of us that we should listen to more. Kudos to Steve to seeking control

I'm with Jackie. I did the pouch test early out as well. Not to reset my pouch, per say, but to reset my head. I was grazing and not really thinking of the way I was eating at times...and the pouch test forced me to at least realize what I was doing and how I was doing it when I was doing it.
I won't be joining you this time, Steve, but good luck and post daily on your accomplishments during the pouch test, and your challenges. It will help keep you accountable and many others have posted when doing the pouch test "solo"
